Flight 1 (6 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Domaine de la Louvetrie (Landron & Fils) Atmosphéres France, Vin de Table Français
81 points
80% Folle Blanche, 20% Pinot Noir. Medium yellow color, very raw bubbles. In the nose, this has underripe and also slightly overripe notes of bruised apple, underripe pear, a little bit of industrial soap and herbs. Not that pleasant. In the mouth, it's pretty rough with unfine bubbles, again bruised apple notes, a somewhat austere mid-palate and a diluted finish. Drinkable, but it's not much pleasure.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Domaine de la Taille aux Loups Triple Zero France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire
88 points
Medium yellow to light bronze color, fine bubbles. In the nose, this is very Chenin typical with notes of quince, apple and pear, some bees wax and hints of honey, quite substantial, but fresh. Very good balance in the mouth, fine bubbles, nice acidity, again great Chenin typicity, not super complex, but a lot of fun to drink.
Red
2013 Damien Coquelet Chiroubles Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Chiroubles
92 points
Pale and cloudy light crimson red. In the nose, this is fantastic with red fruits (raspberry, some strawberry, red currant), a more dark fruited base note that is very subtle, some funk, earth and spices and great complexity. In the mouth, it's juicy despite some slightly tart tannins, fresh acidity that is really well integrated. Mouthwatering long finish. So much fun to drink and a substantial and complex wine at the same time.
Red
2012 Domaine de Briante Brouilly Tradition France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Brouilly
84 points
Blackberry color. In the nose, this is slightly gamey, quite intense with waves of black fruit (blackberry, cassis) coming out of the glass, very intense, but not very attractive. In the mouth, it's clean, slightly tart in a negative way with just very slightly unripe tannins, blackberry fruit again, a bit one-dimensional.
Red
2011 Domaine de Briante Moulin-à-Vent France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent
86 points
Blackberry color. In the nose, this is decently complex with notes of black fruit with subtle red fruit high notes, hints of flowers, some spiciness, quite agreeable, but lacking that extra bit. In the mouth, it's also a tiny bit one-dimensional, clean, rather soft in tannins and acidity, but with good structure. Clean finish. Good to drink, but nothing very special.
Red
2011 Domaine Labruyere Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Moulin à Vent France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent
89 points
Dense cherry red. In the nose, there's quite a lot of oak at first that blows off a bit with more air, the nose remains a bit polished and glitzy despite the oak not being as present anymore after a few minutes, black cherry fruit, oriental spices, some earth. In the mouth, it's not 100% in harmony at the moment, the tannins and acidity are sticking out a bit, but the dense body and great tension are impressive. Minerality driven finish. Modern style, needs some more years to be at peak.
