White
2013 Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
92 points
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of hazelnut oak, salty and flinty minerality, citrus lemon. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of rich citrus lemon, pineapple, toasty hazelnut oak, salt and flint and limestone minerality. Long finish with the ripe fruit sweetness lingering.
Very good quality. Good ripeness here. Very enjoyable already although not fully integrated yet. Will be even better in another 3+ years.
Red
2009 Tenuta Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
89 points
Appearance is clear, medium intensisty, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of black cherries, dark red cherries, earth, tomato leaf, sweet spices. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), fine grippy high tannins, full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, black cherries, sweet spices, slight earth, hints of vanilla. Medium+ finish.
Good quality. Drinking well already, and hopefully may develop some more tertiary earthy notes over the next 2-3 years.
I would say this is somewhat of a mixed modern-traditional style, though more towards the modern camp, with some restraint on the palate, avoiding too much extraction and excessive oak.
Aged 3 years in a mix of the traditional 80 hectoliter Slavonian and 50 hectoliter French oak casks.
Red
2003 Clarendon Hills Syrah Moritz Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon
91 points
Appearance is clear, deep opaque intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of licorice, black pepper spice, black cherry liqueur, blackberry jam, dark plums, and characteristic Clarendon blueberries with more air. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium alcohol, high alcohol (14.5%), smooth velvety high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet dark red cherries, black cherry liqueur, blueberry jam, sweet dark plums, licorice, black pepper, mocha. Long finish.
Very good quality. Though this seems a very straightforward and direct wine. Not in the least subtle at all. Drink up. Unlikely to improve any further than this with more ageing.
Red

Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.

On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), firm high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of mint, grilled bell peppers, black pepper, blackcurrant, blackberries. Long finish.
Very good quality. Still clear distinct Cabernet Sauvignon fruit despite the age. At peak drinking, not for further ageing.
Mainly a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc.
