White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Cuvée de Réserve France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Superb campagne - one of the finer non vintage examples I have drunk. Very complex, and quite broad, but in a way that still remains fresh and inviting. Brilliant sense of layering being a standout feature of this wine's personality.

2014 Domaine du Tunnel (Stéphane Robert) St. Péray Cuvée Prestige France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Péray
91 points
Delicious and modern low-acid white Rhone. Creamy texture, beautiful flavours, nice toast aspects. Quite long, but perhaps falls off a little bit at the end, in terms of fruit weight. Squeaky-clean, opulent and very floral. This is super wine that certainly delivers at its (high for St. Peray) price point.

2010 Domaine Jean Chartron Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Gorgeous Puligny, that is in a wonderful point of its development as it is showing some bottle age, but continues to retain very vibrant and primary fruit character. Tight, but starting to open, this is mineral and mealy and beautifully structured. Not a hint of oxidation in this bottle!

2010 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
90 points
Tasted alongside the 2010 Chartron Puling "Caillert", this was also excellent, but certainly showed far more development. It is softer and creamier, but it lacks the backbone of the Chartron. As a wine, perhaps not quite as concentrated, but with certain foods, this would be the better match. A excellent white Burgundy.
Red
2005 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
94 points
Fabulous Barolo, in a slightly more opaque and rich style. Big and ripe, very structured, extremely complex and penetrating. The nose is dominated by melting tar aromas and quite dark red to black fruits. It is full-bodied and exceptionally long. It does not express the last word in transparency, but it is stunning.

2005 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Romirasco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
95 points
Tasted next to the Mascarello from the same year, this shared the other wine's slightly opaque and rich nature, but added a subtle gloss of oak handling. The fruit weight and penetration of this wine was more intense than that of the Mascarello, and while it may not have shared that wine's evocotive melting tar nose, this also had some beautiful floral notes. Gorgeous.

Red
1989 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
96 points
AT the age of 28, this is showing very little evolution! The fruit quality is outstanding and fully matches the serious oak handling. Cedar, pencil, very ripe cassis notes. This is modern and plush, but one can find the exquisite tannic structure lurking underneath. This is a classic expression of 1989 on the left bank and will continue to age to grace over the next few decades in a cool cellar. Stunning.
Red
2013 Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Noir New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
92 points
Really fine wine! Not at all like the Central Otago style and more in line with the structural expectations of fine red burgundy. Red fruits. subtle oak that only frames the fruit. Superb minerality and already showing a touch of forest floor. I like the way this wine's finish seems to grow. It is an exceptional argument for the wines oft the Martinborough district, in a very subtle and sophisticated manner.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2011 Château Suduiraut France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Yet another great 2011! Fabulous balance of late harvest and botrytis notes. Supple, rich and thick in the mouth, but also wonderfully light oil its feet, thanks to the exceptional acid balance. I'm sure this will age, but when it is already tasting this complete and complex, I would find it difficult to keep my hands off of it!
