Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
1999 Montevertine Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
91 points
Medium minus garnet with tawny rim.
Expressive, slight tamari-fig, sweet leathery red cherry. Dried roses and animal fur and leather and sweet tobacco on the nose. Sweet, savoriness from development.
Dry, medium body, feels 13.5%, high acid, medium plus tannins - still grippy but fine-textured. Beautiful integration.
Red
2013 Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Lyndenhurst USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena
91 points
Blueberry, blackcurrant and black cherry on the nose, with dustings of dark cocoa (oak). Beautiful structured palate with high grippy tannins and a tannic dark-chocolate finish.

Red
2004 R. López de Heredia Rioja Reserva Viña Tondonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
84 points
Lean, not very aromatic - hints of faded red fruit. Medium bodied, and a bit austere on the palate, with elevated tannins, a bit harsh, and high acidity. Medium alcohol. The oak isn't very prominent on the palate, which is a bit strange considering how much time it spends in (used) American oak.
