Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2010 Y de Yquem France, Bordeaux
flawed
Drank after our Reislings, PnP, drank over an hour.

Medium gold color. Nose showing white fruits, citrus and floral notes. Palate started out showing citrus, pineapple, lanolin and white flowers...after about 20 minutes started seeming more oxidated and astringent...will chalk this up to a flawed bottle
White - Off-dry

First of a few nice Reislings for the evening, nicely chilled. PnP, shared with a knowledgeable wine crowd that was less experienced with Reisling. Drank this one after the 2002.

From prior notes:"Pale gold color. Nose white flowers, lemon zest, petrol. Sweet green apples and citrus, pears, baking spices. Tending to the sweeter of the Christoffels I have had. Rich mouthfeel. medium finish.."

This one had some sprtiz on it when first opened, surprising for a wine of this age. Less complex than the 02, shorter finish. Very nice, would let this go a few more years, seems as if it could put on some weight

First of a few nice Reislings for the evening, nicely chilled. PnP, shared with a knowledgeable wine crowd that was less experienced with Reisling.

Medium gold color. Beautiful nose of candied citrus, poached pears, orange zest. Palate showed baked green apples, orchard fruits, honeysuckle, mineral notes. Rich texture, long and layered finish.

Not overly sweet, off dry Auslese. Great as a first wine with a beet salad. Matured but still youthful and fresh. Really drinking well right now with a good arc ahead of it. Crowd loved this one...

Moving into the reds, nice contribution from Jay. PnP

Medium ruby red color. Nose of blue fruits, savory notes, spices and incense. Darker fruit palate, dark cherry, blueberry. Great purity and precision with this wine. Would have benefited from more air time...very nice

Second Burgundy of the evening, this one another generous contribution from Jay.

Medium ruby/red. Nose of berries, dried flowers, savory notes. Palate of red cherry, orange peel, almonds, herbs...smooth and elegant mouthfeel. Subtle secondary characteristics though the mid palate.

Really gorgeous wine, in a great spot right now. Would have benefited from a longer decant than we allowed it.

broke some of the tradition with this one, last wine of the evening contributed by Gary. Splash decant, drank over 90 minutes

Dark red garnet color, no real signs of age. Nose of dark cherry, herbs, minerals, pencil. Palate is Bdx like, black currants, pencil leather and spice. Oak is present, nicely integrated, tannins smooth. Long and layered finish.

Great wine from Bond (with fruit from VHR), in a really great spot right now.
