Flight 1 (8 notes)

Big crackling sulphur nose. Big reduction. Far more so than the '02 alongside. Vibrant and intense palate with bright citrus, high acid, and pleasant minerality boardering on salinity. Super opulent.

Gorgeous nose, much better rounded than that on the Drouhin with creamy and nutty notes. White flower and honeysuckle. Palate feels better rounded as well and with some savoury development. Rich and creamy, but still elegant and with the acid to balance it all out perfectly.

This is a very intricate and expressive nose. A good amount of reduction but also has fresh florals and citrus in addition to the gunpowder. Comparable to the '01 but more well rounded. This is easily taking the flight ('00s and '96s). Unfortunately the 1996 Ramonet Montrachet alongside is heavily oxidized.

Such a fresh an clean nose. Elegant and pure. Honeydew melon, honeysuckle, dried coconut, dried green seaweed. This is really on and really beautiful. Picks up fresh kicks of lemon citrus with a swirl. Palate is sensational as well with huge flavour and perfect balance. Making a case for wine of the night. Didn't even think about cork taint until after dinner when Burgundy Al mentioned it...

Gorgeous nose with wafting ripe yellow fruit. Pleasant degree of reduction. Savoury, nutty, white florals, white rubber, sulphur. Spectacular bouquet, just awesome. The finish here roars on. Can easily recall this the morning after. Decidedly takes wine of the night. "Game changing bottle" as one sommelier put it.

Defer to Burgundy Al whose note is spot on. Really curious how bright and fresh this was...

1990 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru

This is really showing up. Quite developed and savoury on the palate but totally balanced with acid. Ripe.

Got more out of this than the '90 Drouin alongside, which was also quite good. Big ripe yellow fruit with white florals. Opulent but not unduly fat. Some at our table said too much O2, but this was fine, developed ripeness.
