Introduction

The premier events have simple outdone themselves. This tasting was amazing, such a treat getting to try wines that are almost inaccessible.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
2014 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Rainin Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
95 points
This wine is lovely and wound up, despite being only a 2014 is somehow approachable. The tannins are firm and present, but the lower acid somehow makes this wine approachable. That normal sunburt/starburtst diamond flavors are showing clearly through this wine, you can almost taste the volcanic soil. The fruit is tart, bright and lovely. You can get away with enjoying this young, but hold if you can.
Red
2013 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Rainin Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
98 points
This wine is fairly approachable for a big 2013 cabernet, the tannins are present, but are round sweet and supple. Dark inky syrup on the palate, luxurious texture. This wine has an incredible refinement to it, having tasted it twice the first bottle was better. This showing was a bit tired, but still unbelievable wine. Masculine and opulent the diamond mountain terroir is evident, the volcanic soil is present in the wine, stunning finish goes on forever. What a wine.
Red
2012 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Rainin Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
96 points
Back and blue fruit abounds in the glass, the terrior of diamond shows through but has more acid and complexity than I'm used to. The tannins are big and drying and balance out the fruit. The finish goes on for a long time, hold this wine for a long time.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
2014 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon The Bishop USA, California, Napa Valley
96 points
That classic howell mt wine - red soil, herbaceous minerality. The blackfruit takes over to the core, big finsish 45+ seconds with loads of baby fat. Hold this wine for quite some time before opening.
Red
2013 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon The Bishop USA, California, Napa Valley
94 points
2013 is slightly less extracted than the 12 making it only slightly approachable. It could stand from another 10 years of cellaring. The black fruit is obvious and that class howell mt. red soil, herabcious/sage flavors are present. The finish is unbelievable. Be patient, this one will come around.
Red
2012 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon The Bishop USA, California, Napa Valley
92-94 pts. This wine is so spun up it's hard for me to rate it. The tannins are present in every aspect. Despite being 5 years from vintage, drinks like it is newly bottled. Hold for 20 years. The terroir is present, but is hiding, be patient.

Red
2014 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Sacrashe Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
95 points
The rutherford dust is obvious and present. Black fruit, anise, tart berry. The tannins are down as is the acid making this wine appear sweet. The texture is present, you can almost stand a spoon in it. Outstanding wine.

2013 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Sacrashe Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
95 points
Like the excellenz the 2013 sacrashe is just fantastic. The terroir is much more obvious in this wine and less blended and refined. I think the olive / anise is a bit much whereas I find the excellenz more restrained albeit slightly more extracted. This wine is amazing, bright, you can feel the weight and rutherford dust in each sip. Superb effort.

Red
2013 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Exzellenz USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
100 points
The baby fat has faded a touch and this is really singing. A blend of 6 different sacrashe blocks, it has tad less terroir than it's bigger brother in the platinum collection which suits my palate. The finish just goes on and on - more than a minute later it's still present. It's a bit more extracted and present than the 2013 sacrashe. This wine has a level of refinement that is to write about.

2010 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Exzellenz Sacrashe Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
100 points
2010 Exz is in a magical place, the fruit of raisins, plum, anise, that center sacrache dark black delicious is starting to fade. Huge finish goes on for days and days. This wine is silky smooth, rich - rich & opulent would descibe this wine. If tasted younger you'd accuse it of holding the baby fat, but it has faded and yet the texture is still there. Olive, and leather are starting to show. The tannins are alive and grippy, yet an amazing amount of elegance. Spectacular. Truly spectacular. Having tasted this wine now 4 times - this is wine at it's finest. Top 5 wine tastes I have ever experienced.

2008 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Exzellenz Sacrashe Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
96 points
Approachable, soft and supple. Wine drinks like a 20 year old, yet is only 9. Outstanding wine, elegant and refined tannins. Could hold on for another 5 years, but drink now. Amazing effort.

Flight 5 (1 note)

Rosé
2016 Walt Pinot Noir Rosé USA, California
Bright cherry, lovely acidity. Chill it and Kill it. Great.

Flight 6 (2 notes)

Red
2014 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain
94 points
This wine is young yet accessible, it's got that sunburst volcanic diamond mt terrior. Baby fat is showing, the texture is high. The low acid makes for a sweet showing, classic diamond mountain that will show well young and also has structure to last if you want to lay it down.

2014 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder
93 points
It's rare to find a young veeder that is accessible but this wine is. Lovely, approachable, opulent. A mix of red and black fruit in the palate shows a depth and complexity that will allow for wonderful years ahead.
