Starts off with an intense nose of soap and flowers, later comes smell of aluminum. Rather high acidity, untame and lean, not that much fruit or smoke/leather. There's some red currant on the palate. Character of a nasty old gentleman.

Smoky, quite a lot of red fruits on the nose, more substance than Riscal from the same vintage. Lovely balance, some barnyard, with time develops aroma of honeycomb. Even later come herbs and peppermint. High acidity, which seems to be a common thing with these '82.

Boiled carrots and other vefetables. Soft, round, very lively and open wine. Lower acidity than 82 and it helps greatly. Also develops this peppermint note with time.

High shoulder fill, but the wine was cooked.

Wet leaves on the nose - a bit funky. There's vanilla and sweet notes as well. Acidity has mellowed. Gains nice fatness with air and develops aromas of mango and pineaple. Very lovely.

Milky-meaty aromas. Very complex and at the same time smooth. Fat vanilla on the nose. Superb.

Contino is very consistent - this inaugural vintage '74 was similar in style with '80 and '82 we had alongside. Smoky vanilla, medium+ body, complex and interesting. Develops smoky notes as well as honeycomb aromas.
