Introduction

nothing special here, just had a bunch of people over for a beginning of the school year backyard bbq so i thought i'd put out some '09's and '10's to see where they were.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
2010 Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinot Noir South Africa, Cape South Coast, Walker Bay, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
funk on the nose which blew off, quite "grapey" which was not expected... moreso than the californians, short finish, little complexity.
Red
2010 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
less fruit than the others, but makes up for it with nuance, hints of smoke and earth, bright wine enjoyable for its style.
Red
2009 Bergström Pinot Noir Bergström Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
86 points
flat nose, bitter palate, lacking fruit, mostly dirt on the palate with a bitter finish - have yet to have a Bergstom pinot that i've liked.
Red
2010 Calera Pinot Noir 35th Anniversary Mills Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Mount Harlan
light, earthy, did not stand out amongst the competition.
Red
2009 Neely Pinot Noir Spring Ridge Vineyard Picnic Block USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
biggest, sweetest, richest of the bunch, the most "californian," but lacking acid and liveliness.
Red
2010 Mount Eden Vineyards Pinot Noir USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
lively, slight fizz, bright, saline, beautiful ripe but elegant fruit profile - best of the bunch.
