A Very Tasty Late Summer Wine Day

St.Pauli District, Hamburg

Tasted September 23, 2017 by fc1910 with 230 views

Introduction

This Saturday all of my Riesling--Addicts Wine Group AND Football fans have to come together very early.

Because of the fact that football of german second division is shown for more earned money on TV at 13:00 PM.
As I told the CT-crowd sometimes before, some of our group are living in this district. Therefore we meet early to have a first sip.
Go a short distance to our home ground, the Millerntor, a recently renovated stadium for somewhat 30.000.
Take for security reasons a wine in a ....."ahem" plastic tumbler into the ground and our team looses again!
And evidently it is the referees fault! ,-)

After the match we meet again in the integrated wine bar, because we stand or sit separated all over the stadium.
Take some more sips and finally have a stroll to the fine recently opened restaurant HA CO to have dinner! To be recommended!

Without the once again defeat a perfect sunny late summer day in a worth living nordic metropolis.

One last remark to the football match: to be a St.Pauli fan is teaching a lot about the real life! Sometimes you loose and sometimes the others are winning!
Much more interesting than sitting in Munich and watching boring Bayern München!

Flight 1 (9 notes)

White
2016 A. Christmann Riesling Trocken Germany, Pfalz
Next Gutswein from the topical vintage, stony, refreshing, lightbodied, chalky, moderate length, good start into a late summer day, *-**
White - Off-dry
2016 K.H. Schneider Sobernheimer Marbach Riesling Spätlese Germany, Nahe
A fine passion fruit nose, initially a lot of sulphur on the palate, lacking some acidic tension, with more aeration the wine gets more precise, tasty fruit, quite harmonic that young, but overall a little disappointing, *(*- +?)
Red
2013 K.H. Schneider Sobernheimer Marbach Spätburgunder -S- Germany, Nahe
87 points
A harmonic and very balanced showing on the midpalate, hints of strawberry (which I do dislike!), very good tension and therefore a tasty mouthfeel, moderate body and good length, overall a very "german" appearance, nothing special, **+
White
2016 Weingut Klumpp Weissburgunder Germany, Baden
Surprisingly found this bottle on the wine list of a fairly new restaurant in my hometown, our Riesling group visited this Weingut some years ago, again it is all about tension, good acidity, depth, floral, mineralic, quiet harmonic that young, but years ahead, finishes long, very good pairing with nordic dishes, **(*)
White
2016 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Herrenberg Riesling Alte Reben Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
What a wine-lucky day, the next fine bottle, again WOW-tension, stonefruit, mineralic, "only" light to midbodied, but very tight, that elegant, ending long+ with a perfect vivacious mouthwatering acidity, enjoy or hold! **(**)
White
2016 A. Christmann Weissburgunder Trocken Germany, Pfalz
Tasted after the Riesling Gutswein, creamy, floral, some yellow fruit, moderate body and length, tasty, a good+ bottle, **
Red
2007 Weingut Poss Spätburgunder -S- Germany, Nahe
92 points
First of all: unexpectingly another great bottle, that tension, young, no...... very young appearance, violets, stunning intense red fruit, rich and deep, harmonic precision with a silky texture, a superb, waxy mouthfilling aftertaste, great bottle, enjoy now and over the next 5+ years, ***(*), 91- 93+?
Red
1996 Château Tour Haut-Caussan France, Bordeaux, Médoc
92 points
From Magnum: a very intense cherry nose, earthy, meaty, on the palate a very tasty and savoury cherry fruit, meaty, midbodied, a to chew for bottle, surprisingly long+ aftertaste and therefore deeply satsifying, delicious, classic old school Bordeaux, enjoy now, or like in the condition of this MG bottle over the next 5+ years, ***+ - *,
White
2015 Van Volxem Riesling Alte Reben Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
90 points
The stadium wine from plastic tumbler: as always a perfect, rich, balanced stonefruit Riesling, sold at the our stadium wine bar for 25€ per bottle, a real bargain, and a tasty very welcomed companion, ***
