Red
2008 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
95 points
Tasted blind. First round poured from bottle and second round from decanter over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of violets, toasty sweet perfumed spices, elegant sweet red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, bright soaring high acidity, medium alcohol (14%), medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of earth, slight bitter stems, toasty sweet spices, ripe sweet red cherries, darker red cherries with more air. Long finish.
Put on a bit more weight on the second pour onwards after more air.
Very very good quality. Extremely drinkable and was the first bottle to be finished. Oh so sexy. I would like to try this again in another 5 years' time.

Good quality. I was guessing Austrian Pinot Noir 2007. Correct. Nice to drink but unfortunately pales in the company of Tarts on fire.
This is kinda at the end of its life. Not for further ageing. Already becoming oxidative.
Red
2005 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
95 points
Tasted blind. First round poured from bottle and second round from decanter over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Colour pale but definitively darker colour than the 2008 Clos de Tart.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of earth, black cherries, dark red cherries, spice, some funky undergrowth. Nose closes up and open ups periodically. Tight. Better with more air in the decanter.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (14%), firm medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, sweet earth, mushrooms, black cherries, dark red cherries, ripe stems, some savoury meat, spice. Long finish.
Outstandingly good quality. Lots of fine balance in this bottle. Still some more age required to unlock its full potential. Grand Cru weight and finesse. Clearly a ripe good vintage. Correctly identified as a Clos de Tart. Will surge to 96 points when the time is right.
Red
2009 Lucie & Auguste Lignier Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Cuvée Romain Lignier France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Drank from bottle over 2.5 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.

On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), firm medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, dark red cherries, chalky minerality, earth, sweet spices. Very long finish.
Outstanding quality. Matching up and pulling its own weight in the blind match up. I even initially guessed this was a Clos de Tart!
Drinking well. Will still evolve a bit more over the next 4-5 years.

Very good quality, Nice ripe fruits with some emerging tertiary elements. Would be nice to try again in about 4 years' time. Ripe and opulent fruit, however, the 2009 lacks the finesse and balance of the 2008 and tremendous 2005.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
92 points
Tasted blind. Pop and poured. Drank over 1+ hour.

On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), fine high tannins, full body, Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of spicy capsicums, green olives, blackberries, blackcurrant, black cherries, tobacco. Long finish.
Very good quality. Though it feels more like a Left Bank Bordeaux than a Cornas at the moment. Re-explore again in another 3-4 years' time.
