Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Laherte Frères Champagne Rosé de Saignée Extra Brut Les Beaudiers France, Champagne
90 points
Probably disgorged around 2008, based on when it was bought. The nose here is round and generous, with a good helping of fruit. The palate has a balance of earthiness and fruit, and while the acidity is there, it takes a supporting role. With air, this rounded out and got more expressive. Perhaps more of a curiosity than a wine that I would regularly seek out, but it was certainly still quite enjoyable.

2015 Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Another wine that fits the 2015 mold of red Burgundy very nicely. This is an incredibly luscious wine, with tons of sweet fruit. At the same time, there's a gentle amount of oak and spice. Obviously young, but fleshy and maybe even just a little giving. This didn't strike me as too structural, but that might have just been difficult to tell because of all the flesh on this wine. Juicy and delicious now.

1973 Château Latour Grand Vin France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
95 points
This was a stunning bottle of Bordeaux. Yes, it's an off vintage, and it actually comes across more like a brilliant Chinon than Bordeaux, in that there is just a massive wave of green pepper, leather, and tobacco. At the same time, this is incredibly fresh, and there are still wisps of sweet fruit on the palate. It's not light or dilute at all, but the only sign that this wasn't from a great vintage seems to be that the finish was a little shorter than I would expect from a wine with such an incredibly rich palate.

1992 The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir Willamette Valley USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

This was the runner up behind the 1973 Latour for the wine of the night. The nose here has a moderate amount of earthy funk, and seemed to be more mushroomy and earthy than the 1985 Reserve that I had opened a few weeks earlier. The palate follows through with the nose, and the fruit opens up with a beautiful sweetness while being counterbalanced with a slight touch of earth (the funk is more on the nose than the palate). Elegant and classic pinot, and another bottle that just makes me wonder why I don't have more Eyrie in my cellar...

1999 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
90 points
This is drinking pretty well right now, though for me, I found the nose a little bit too funky and dirty. To be honest, I was slightly surprised by that, as I've always thought of the Barthod wines to be beautifully clean and elegant. This was a riper wine, with just a hint of manure (not Chinon style, mind you). Good acidity and fruit here, with the fruit nicely prominent. The acidity does help balance the umami and savoury funky elements of this.

1993 Mayacamas Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
This is a proper Napa cabernet, sitting right in the prime of its drinking window. The fruit here is Napa style, with its ripeness, but there is also a really good bit of dustiness here as well. Truthfully, this almost seems young, as there are barely secondary characteristics here. The acidity is there, and even though the fruit shows really ripe here, this doesn't feel over the top at all. This is what I want when I open a bottle of Napa cabernet.

1977 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
93 points
From an original carton in climate-controlled storage which was undisturbed for some twenty years. When this was originally opened, this was super clean. No funk, no animale, no manure. Spice, fruit, and earth with a hint of smoke. The palate is light, but not dilute. There's ample fruit and clean secondary characteristics here, but air seemed to start muddying the waters a little bit. A little bite of spice on the back end, but no signs of heat; this held its purported 13.8% abv incredibly well.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Meunier Brut Nature 50th Anniversary USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
93 points
I liked this bottle more than the last time I had it (thanks to the same person #grandcru #alldayeveryday). There was a pronounced peachiness to this wine (though it seemed more like a cherry note from a flute than a Burgundy glass), and just a modest hint of earthiness as well. The palate comes across with a really rounded texture, there's no linear acidity here the way a bottle of champagne might present it. Not to say this didn't have acid, but the feel and shape of this wine on the palate was quite different.

2003 Frederic Esmonin Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
90 points
From magnum (of course). This was a very nice showing of the vintage, as there was no sense of roastedness or overripeness at all. To be sure, this is a burly wine, and the fruit shows quite forward alongside all the iron and earth in this wine. A fairly powerful wine on the midpalate, this diminishes a little on the back end.
