Introduction

Mikhail & Svetlana stopped by after visiting the Finger Lakes.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

White
2017 Boundary Breaks Vineyard Riesling No. 198 Reserve USA, New York, Finger Lakes
92 points
Brought by Mikhail & Svetlana from the winery. Pop and pour. Tight, bright sweet nose of apples and pears. Soft on the palate. Somewhat off-dry. Balanced and elegant.
4 hours later: Nose is more complex with peaches, pineapples, and slate. Still quite soft and delicious. Sweetness shows a bit more up front with a refreshing tartness on the finish. Should drink well for 5-8 years, but so tasty now.

White
2007 Hermann J. Wiemer Dry Gewürztraminer USA, New York, Finger Lakes

Pop and pour with Mikhail and Svetlana. OMG, this has improved dramatically since our last bottle in 2015. Blind I would think is an Alsace Grand Cru from a good producer. It has developed such complexity and intensity. If you have any left give it a try. Loads of lychees and kumquats in the nose. In the mouth, the wine is so expansive. It fills the mouth with flowers and lychee and minerals. Simply stunning.
Red
2002 Kistler Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Pop and pour with Mikhail and Svetlana. Smokey red and black plums in the nose. Rich and yet elegant. Just a lovely wine drinking beautifully right now. Medium length. Mouth filling. A good match to broiled salmon.
