Introduction
My first time at this event, like a mini Game of Rhones or Pinot Palooza. I meandered around, sporadically tasting...
Flight 1 - Bracket one - whites (20 notes)
Hmm, not the greatest brackets of whites I've ever tried. That Seabrook Marsanne was a very pleasant surprise though
White
2017 Turkey Flat Barossa Valley White
Apricot, peach, a little sweet spice, slight bees was…Apricot, a little butter and slight cheesy notes, the palate is a little flat and muted after the nose.
White
2017 Thorn-Clarke Riesling Eden Trail
Lime, stony minerality, sharp acidity and more lime on the palate, finishes mineral. Fresh. Simple. Okay.
White
2017 St. John's Road Riesling Peace of Eden
Lime & lemon, fruit driven nose, floral top notes…juicy, fleshy, very fruit driven, slightly textured and good for what it is.
White
2015 St. John's Road Chardonnay Eden Valley PL
Plenty of oak, a little lemon and sweet spice. Hmm, a little savoury, lacks fruit, quite textured on the palate. Meh
White
2017 Seabrook Wines Riesling The Judge Clare Valley Eden Valley
Concentrated lime juicy and similar on the palate, drops after initial fruit punch…
White
2017 Seabrook Wines Marsanne Le Maitre de Cave
cheesy lees, stone fruit, a little bees wax on the nose. In the mouth it's fresh, the fruit is a little muted but texture across the palate is pleasing and nicely married to the acidity. Good
White
2018 Schild Estate Riesling A good dirt
apples and limes, a little struck match…slight bitter green apple over lime. Fruit drops a little but is still present. Pleasant.
White
2017 Rusden Chenin Blanc Christian Barossa
wild ferment, waxy, slight lemon, cheesy. Juicy, fresh, slight lemon. Hmm
White
White
2017 Mountadam Chardonnay High Eden
Lemon and stone fruit, a little sweet spice, Ugh, pretty off on the palate.
White
2017 Chateau Tanunda Chardonnay The Chateau Eden Valley
Creamy stone fruit tending to tropical, butter, oak…smells soft (if that makes sense) and so it proves on the palate…nah
White
2013 Cirillo Sémillon 1850's Old Vine
Fresh cut grass, apple, juicy, tangy, textured across the mid palate and the fruit more lemon here…but…it just doesn't appeal…it's a bit too simple for this price point…
White
2017 St Hallett Riesling
apple and lime, more of the same on the palate, lovely acidity joins, simple, long, nice.
White
2017 Teusner Riesling The Empress
Lime, slight plasticine, oyster shells, almost off dry, plenty of fruit sweetness but short.

White
2017 Spinifex Riesling Single Vineyard
funky, leesy, struck match & a little apple; smells like Heymann Lowenstein which isn't a bad thing but the fruit is almost absent on the palate; tangy though and textured. Hmm
White
2017 Massena Riesling Stonegarden
Lime and lime cordial, a little reductive…oh wow, very lime cordial but not overtly acidic or sharp. Fruit travels long. Good.
White
2017 Hutton Vale Riesling
Medium minus intensity aromas of lime. Again the illusion of off-dryness with lime. Short. Meh
White
2017 Heathvale Vineyard Riesling The Witness
Slightly herbaceous notes, a little citrus, ooh, quite sharp on the palate. Lime, travels long. Hmm. Time.
White
2017 Henschke Riesling Peggy's Hill
Apple, lemon, lime, slight sweet spice, stony notes. Tangy, tight, some mid palate burr, fruit a little muted but long finish. Okay.
Flight 2 - Bracket two - Reds (34 notes)
Again the Seabrook Grenache was good
Red
2017 Bethany Old Vine Grenache
Subdued, wild red berry fruit, a little cream, smells wet, juicy, savoury and a little herbaceous underpin to the red fruit and some soft tannic burr. Hmm
Red
2016 Chateau Tanunda Grenache The Old Cooperage
Polished ripe red berry and cherry fruit. Plenty of oak. Ripened berry, fleshy than savoury, grippy though silky textured tannins. Bit of alcohol warmth on the finish. Well, it is what it is. No shame here.
Red
2016 Chateau Yaldara Grenache Foundation
Strawberry, fresh, a little spice. Hmm, acid adjustment, fresh, strawberry jam with the cloying quality, near undiscernible tannins. Easy
Red
2017 Cirillo Grenache The Vincent
Stalks - ashy notes - over slight red berry and sweet spice. More of the same on the palate. Disjointed. Nah
Red
2012 Cirillo Grenache 1850's Old Vine
Slight oxidised, savoury red fruit, quite muted. On the palate more of the same. There is a little juicy fruit hiding here, talc textured tannin. It travels long but, for me, it's just not very nice.
Red
2016 First Drop Garnacha The Matador
A little farty, sweet spice over muted strawberry, drying tannic burr shuts things down. Meh
Red
2015 Henschke Johann's Garden
Confected berries, a little herbaceous, very sharp. Pretty awful on the palate.
Red
2016 Paisley Grenache Velvet
Concentrated and slightly jammy strawberry over muted herbs. Initially juicy then savoury red fruit, slightly gritty tannins. Meh.
Red
2017 Red Art - Rojomoma Grenache Red Art Single Vineyard
Savoury, red berry, earthy, slight herbs…juicy, soft but drying tannins, fruits persists with a little alcohol heat. Nicely balanced. Hmm
Red
2017 Seabrook Wines Grenache The Broker
Medium minus intensity aromas of pretty jubey red berries, quite perfumed. Jubey and juicy on the palate as well with pretty red fruit, chamois soft tannins. Lovely.
Red
2017 Seppeltsfield Grenache Barossa
Savoury, slightly reductive with time savoury and dense red fruits, strawberry and cherry. Dense, concentrated and serious on the palate. Medium plus length. Hmm
Red
2016 Sons of Eden Kennedy
Pretty red berries, a little blackberry and peppery spice. Savoury, drying, talc textured tannins. Medium length but nice none the less.

Jubey but savoury ripe, red berries backed by some charcuterie. Less pleasant on the palate, fruit a little muted and a little talc textured tannic grip. Mm
Red
2017 Yalumba Grenache Carriage Block
Slightly jubey red berry fruit, pretty…on the palate it's dense, tight, the tannins dominate the fruit. Time may assist this coming together as it's quite young. Hmm
Red
2014 Rolf Binder/Veritas "Bull's Blood"
Blackberry, red berry, sweet spice, vanilla; all very concentrated. More of the same on the palate with chamois soft but drying tannins across the middle of the tongue. Long. Nice but young.
Red

Pretty and jubey plummy fruit, savoury and meaty under this backed by cream and vanilla…a bit more wet on the palate with chalky tannins. Hmm
Red

Meaty with jubey fruit, it's a bit anonymous on the palate though. Meh
Red
2015 Atze's Corner Wines Shiraz Eddies Old Vine
Medium minus intensity aromas of slightly dusty blackberry, toast, vanilla, cream…and so it proves on the palate, densely berried fruit, silky tannic grip. Yes, a bit of a beast but still controlled.
Red
2015 Atze's Corner Wines Shiraz Zen Master 1912 Centurion Vineyard
perfumed, slightly reductive, fresh blackberry and a little cedar. Tight tannins, muted fruit. Meh.
Red
2014 Bethany Shiraz LE
Polished blackberry and cherry, a little cedar and slight peppery spice. Juicy, peppery spice and slight gritty tannins over muted black cherry fruit. Okay
Red
2016 Chateau Tanunda Shiraz Terroirs of the Barossa Eden Valley
Red and black berry, very slightly reductive, sweet spice, slight cherry….on the palate it has brambly blackberry, massive tannins, tit of a beast by quite savoury rather than confected. Hmm
Red

Concentrated black berry, cedar, spice, slight pepper…slight sour on the palate, spicy, some black fruit but a little meh.

Red
2016 Hentley Farm Shiraz The Beauty
Blackberry concentrate, vanilla, cream. Juicy, blackberry concentrate, peppery spicy, drying tannins, alcohol heat all having a bit of an elbows fight in my mouth. Nah.
Red
2015 Hobbs Shiraz Gregor
Biscuit, pretty black fruit, cream, vanilla, cedar. On the palate the fruit is more concentrated and joined by plenty of alcohol heat and drying chalky tannins. Meh
Red
Red
2006 Hutton Vale Shiraz
meaty, biscuity, blackberry fruit, a little spice. Move of the same on the palate with chalky tannins. Still shows as quite young. Hmm
Red
2012 Jacob's Creek Shiraz Centenary Hill
Concentrated and toasted black berry and cherry fruit. On the palate it's wild blackberry juice with slightly chalky tannins. Fruit carries long. Okay
Red
2015 John Duval Wines Shiraz Eligo
Oof, urea and fresh podded green pea, a little black fruit. Not a nice nose. Alcohol heat, cloyingly sweet, black fruit. Nah.

Red
2015 Rusden Shiraz Black Guts
Dark hued berries, slightly jammy, fruit forward backed by sweet spice…roles reversed on the palate - spicy rather than fruity with gritty tannins. Hmm.
Closing
I kind of hit the wall - just tired I think; it had been a long week - so I dropped out considerably earlier than I normally would have done.
