Flight 1 - Oysters & Caviar with Cauliflower Roayle (1 note)

White
2012 Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses
88 points
Served in a Riedel universal stem. Note from a screwcap bottle. Flower; 1018 hPa.

Initial nose of reduction that dissipates rather quickly with some agitation. Nose of lemon, macintosh apple skins, pear, brioche, and limestone. Palate carries similar flavors with solid acidity and really impressive weight for the level. Some stone fruit on the palate with underripe peach. A really nice bottle that shows many characteristics of village Meursault.

Flight 2 - King Crab Scramble with White Truffle on Toasted Baguette (2 notes)

White
2011 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

Served in a Riedel universal stem. Flower; 1018 hPa.

Immediate fresh nose of lime, lemon, and dazzling minerality. Some hazelnuts, browned butter and brioche. A touch of ginger. Some flinty reduction. Palate is linear and sharp with excellent minerality and acidity. Some apple skin, sage, and a bit of smoke. A touch of nutmeg hints at the use of oak, but tonight is showing really well integrated. Finish is medium with some clover honey, acidity, and citrus. Great effort.

Initial nose shows quite a bit of verticality and VA. This blows off over time, but doesn't lose presence. Not quite in flawed territory, but more than my tastes. Underneath, butter, apples, baked pear, nutmeg, spearmint. Palate is much more round than the '11 Les Chaumes served in the same flight. Decent acidity and more weight. Volatility from the nose follows through on the palate. Finish is moderately long with some warm apples and brioche. A solid wine but can't get past the VA for me.

Flight 3 - Wood-Grilled Squab with Foie Gras and Lentils (1 note)

Red
2012 Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay Les Vaudenelles France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
89 points
Served in a Riedel universal stem. Flower; 1018 hPa.

Nose of black cherry, dried roses, violets, dry fall leaves, light sous bois, and some fresh limestone. Some black currant and a bit of pink peppercorn. Palate is mineral driven with good acidity and more of the limestone from the nose. A bit of spice in addition to the sous bois, autumn leaves, and cherry from the nose. Medium finish with more of roses, montmorency cherry, and autumn leaves.

Flight 4 - Allen Brothers 90-Day Cote de Boeuf with Macaroni Gratin (2 notes)

Red
2012 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Wow. A really exotic nose of passionfruit, dragonfruit, and very prominent gooseberry. Some montmorency cherry, a bit of spice, and red clay. Some autumn leaves. Similar flavors on the palate - gooseberry, cherry, spice, and clay driven minerality. Well integrated tannins. This was probably my favorite wine of the evening and showed very, very well.
Red
2009 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Aux Chezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru

Nose of montmorency cherry, nutmeg, dried violets, and some sous bois. The whole cluster shows more here than on the CM '12 in the same flight. Very earth driven and brooding. Palate follows with cherry pie, sous bois (pine forest), and earth. Shows a lot of the brooding characteristics I'd expect from Morey but also carries the fruit of Gevrey. The 2nd best wine of the evening, and a really fun flight.
