Introduction

I admire and appreciate Sarah's incredible attention to detail in her wines. Well done!

Flight 1 - Tasting in the Cave (5 notes)

White
2013 Sarah Francis Chardonnay Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Vineyard USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
90 points
Tasted at the winery. Ripe apple, rear and lemon with subtle spice and floral notes. Good weight and length. I liked this slightly more when I opened a bottle last year and enjoyed slowly over an entire evening, but certainly think a wine best to enjoy over the next 3-4 years.

2016 Sarah Francis Chardonnay Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Vineyard USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros

Tasted at the winery. Alluring floral beginning with broad array of apple character throughout. Good weight, very good length. I appreciate the effort required (and risk) of making this with all native yeast. So charming to enjoy now, with upside from here.

Barrel tasting from the single (large new oak) barrel produced. Obviously too early to judge much, but so much density and brightness with green apple and lemon zest character emerging. Surprisingly crisp and clean. Very impressive potential.

Red
2015 Sarah Francis Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
Tasted at the winery alongside 2015 "Leo." Black cherry, currant and cassis from start-to-finish with impressive density and brightness. Very long finish. Slightly brooding for Napa Cab, particularly in contrast to the extroverted Leo. Certainly mid-90s point potential.

Red
2015 Sarah Francis Cabernet Sauvignon Leo Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
Tasted at the winery alongside 2015 "G3." You couldn't mistake this for anything other than a top Napa Cab, with its rich and ripe black fruit, sweet spice and overall slutty character, but somehow it manages to seem polite and nearly restrained. This wine demands your attention. Wonderful as we tasted at the winery, even slightly better the following afternoon. Certainly mid-90s point potential. Bravo, Sarah!

Flight 2 - Wines with Dinner (2 notes)

White
2009 Louis Jadot Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
90 points
Popped and poured. Very ripe, powerful and dense. Rich, floral and unctuous to start with lots of maturing orchard fruit with semi-tropical hints. The fruit matured quickly before us in glass, and was much less interesting an hour after opened.
Red
2002 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
92 points
A very nuanced and complex wine that demands reflection, not providing a clear, linear line from cork removal to pleasure, but well worth the journey. This was slightly reductive to start them seemingly muted with savory spice, lots of earth, and slightly less red fruit. Slowly and gradually this picked up weight and even freshness. Revisited 4 hours after opened and this was très more powerful, vibrant and joyous. Go figure!
