93-94 for me. Maybe it’s a bit simple but it’s still quite good so 94.

Nose:
Smoke tar rose cherry

Palate:
Juicy dark red cherry, sweet and savory. Pure dark red cherry. Teeth staining fruit. And then married with this dark structure.

Structure: Fine dispersed tannin that is a little rough around the edges, but not quite rustic. These tannins hit immediately and survive a drying finish. But you can still taste the cherry fruit till the end. Such balance.

Approachable fruit despite the big structure. When tannins resolve and fruit softens this is going to be killer. Barolo like power and elegance, but the palate is more fruit forward. 14.5 percent I’d suck down happily. Very, very good. 93+

92-93. Maybe this was a bad bottle because the stuffing was there for 95. The volatile astringency would take this down to a 92. I have one more bottle of the same lot, and content to wait 2 years to try it.

Decanted for sediment two hours before consuming. No sediment??? Cork was soaked 50 percent through (outright wet). Clearly the retailer misled on how other bottles of their case showed on the cork.

Nose: cedar. Plum. A little perfumed, dusty floral note. Over time a candied red plum note. The initial strong cedar note had me thinking this wine me slightly corked, but over time I did not think so (but can't be entirely sure).

Silky mouthfeel. Black and purple plum. Over time this turned into sweet prune and red cherry - a quite nice albeit sweet combination. Sweet ripe fruit but not jammy or cloying or overly dense. A touch of sweet vanilla from resolved wood. A little damp soil.

Finish. At first this was slightly astringent. Felt this relaxed and disappeared with air. And then after two hours became much more astringent red cherry. With astringency being a little volatile in this, perhaps the age resulted in more volatility or a taster who was in varying states of sobriety?

Double decant 24 hours before consuming. It didn’t transform this wine into a Yquem, and the tennis balls didn’t fully go away. Still quite enjoyable. 93-94. Don’t think I’d ever score this wine higher than a 94, and clearly have a preference for giving this wine a lot of air (at least a few hours every time, if not longer).

Nose: Mango, saffron, slightly overripe apricot, coconut, toasted coconut
Palate: apricot mango marmalade, slight coconut, slight tennis balls, subtle sweet lime.
Texture: Slightly oily but not cloying.
