Flight 1 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2007 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
88 points
A little richer and creamier on the nose than previously. Similar on palate but falls away very quickly. Little substance or length. A touch of sherbet. No, this is very light and inconsequential. A decent enough aperitif but disappointing in its context. ***

White - Sparkling
2002 Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Coeur de Cuvée France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
93 points
Mid straw. Nicely rich on the nose, hinting at a slightly oxidative style but all nicely in balance. Rich, with a touch of ginger spice. Easonably long. Nicely complex and satisfying. ****

Flight 2 (1 note)

White
2013 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Perrières Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
90 points
Magnum. Lovely, slightly reductive classic PY nose. A touch of green freshness coming through too. Similar on palate, nicely mineral and quite long if not particularly persistent, with that green tinge to keep it nicely fresh. Very decent. ***1/2

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2000 Robert Michel Cornas La Geynale France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
90 points
Quite a lot of sediment here from the off. Nicely meaty, deeply red-fruited nose with a lovely savoury element. Mid to full red fruit. A touch animale. A graininess too. Really bright acidity that gets shriller in the glass. ***1/2
Red
2000 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
92 points
Brighter, more cherry red in colour. Punchy raspberry fruit. Mid weight. Good acidity and typicity. Nicely complex. Grows in the glass for an hour or so before becoming shriller and less expressive after a couple of hours with the acidity dominating. More complete and a little more multidimensional than the Geynale alongside. ****

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
1998 Château Certan de May France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
93 points
Beautifully deep garnet. Bright. A sense of velvet. Dark fruited with a sense of tobacco, licorice and warm gravel against slightly plummy fruit. Mellow but vigorous. Similar to a bottle earlier in the year, albeit not quite with the same sheen. Just a very good and nice wine without top level fireworks. ****
Red
2000 Domaine de Trévallon France, Provence, Vin de Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône
91 points
Claret with a touch of garrigue, but the southern, Syrah elements have melded since my previous bottle four years ago and this is now the sum of its parts rather than emphasising one of the halves. A slight, albeit fine, graininess to the texture. ****

Flight 5 (1 note)

White - Fortified
N.V. Rey Fernando de Castilla Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Pedro Ximénez "Antique" Spain, Andalucía, Jerez-Xérès-Sherry
93 points
Mid weight PX. Coats the glass but without the daunting viscosity of some examples. A lovely figgy, toffee sticky pudding nose. Quite fresh, brown sugar, decent length without being cloying. Complex and long. ****
