Introduction

A nice get around with Ian & Bernie from Burgundy lovers. Great meal and wines and fantastic company.

Flight 1 - A pair of Champagne to start (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Jacques Selosse Champagne Grand Cru Lieux-dits Extra Brut Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Les Carelles France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Disgorged 10-Apr-2013.
Some autolysis notes with bruise apple, iron, yellow flowers and roasted nut. Broad entry, rich and touch sweet but getting more linear towards the finish with excellent acidity and salinity across the palate. With air, this has shaping up, even better focus and precision, very long and engaging. Really like the flavours profile and focus here. It even shows seaweed / seashell note. Drinking like a white Burgundy / Top Chablis that just entering secondary stage, with nice inner perfume.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Augustin Champagne Premier Cru Cuvée CCXIV L'Air Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
A lovely crisp, energetic Champagne. The dosage is low (0.4g/l) to let the high but not sharp acidity and solid minerality (salinity) to show, which accompany with green apple, citrus fruits profile. Dry and clean finish. Some might think this is lean especially when tasted along with Selosse Carelles next to it might be asking for higher dosage. However to me the dosage is well judged.

Flight 2 - Flight 2 - Blanc (2 notes)

White
2016 Domaine Dublère Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Youthful but surprisingly open-knit and generous. Really high tone and spicy on the nose, loaded with pineapple, peaches, lily and saltiness. Rounded, powerful, saturated on the palate yet with nice juicy fruits and intense salinity for the balance and clean, long lingering finish w lime oil. Dangerous.
White
2004 Louis Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Unfortunately there is very light TCA affected the nose otherwise this has got really excellent stuffing on the palate. Still holding itself really well. I can only imagine how impressive from a perfect bottle.

Flight 3 - Flight 3 - Rouge (5 notes)

A nice coincidence that all Rouge to be 1er Cru.

Red
2002 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Amazing seductive aromas very complex aromatic of orange peel, sweet fruits, forest floor, mushroom, oriental spices with sorbet like freshness. Fresh entry with excellent acidity, the complex, delicate flavours filling the mouth, expanding and lingering on the palate yet with serious depth and also amazing weightlessness. Spices infused super long finish that’s linger. This is just such an elegant and pretty wine. Always a treat to drink this wine.

Red
1995 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Served after the Mugnier and apparently with some aged, entering secondary stage and different in aromatic spectrum, with higher, firmer acidity accompany by Sous Bois, secondary fruits and iron. Pretty good mouth filling, with excellent acidity, juicy fruits, a tad dusty, resolved tannin though still have the sense of firmness (hard edge) on the palate. Secondary inner perfume. Nice length. Drinking very nicely though I prefer this to be 3-5yrs younger.
Red
2008 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
This shows the usual high tone red fruits, airy aromatic of 2008 vintage. Autumn leaves, wet soil, sweet herbs and light spices, pretty powerful. Really high acidity on the palate which is still good for me but not for many. The inner perfume is there, with juicy fruits and salinity. Good depth. However more tannin showing up with air which is a bit rough and quite dominant. The minerality is there to buffer but still showing 4-square-ish mouthfeel. Long grippy finish. Most thought this tis from Vosne Romanee - Flagey side.
Red
2010 Lucien Le Moine Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Bottle aeration for 4 hours before serving next to the Barthod Cras, the aromatic profile even airier, high pitch and captivating. Loaded with lavender, roses and intense spiciness. This is a firm wine but completely buffered by the intense minerality throughout the palate that leaving a really clean, elegant mouthfeel with sweet inner perfume. Delineated and persistent. Very Long and refreshing. I especially like the textural richness and layers here, a delightful Malconsorts.
Red
1999 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Ripe, mellow blue and red fruits with earth, intense wood spice and just touch of Sous bois. High acidity, mellow ripe fruits, firm tannin and some oak here. Nice grip on the palate. Powerful, mouth coating and very Long. A touch edgy. This has just entering the secondary stage, approachable but not really into the drinking window yet, the power of 99. Curious to know how is the interaction of the fruits and tannin 5-10yrs down the road.

Flight 4 - Flight 4 - Digestif (1 note)

Red - Fortified
1994 Graham Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
Medium red. I didn't take detail note but this has got really complex aromas of dried fruits and spiciness over a touch of maraschino cherry. Beautifully layers, good balance between rich fruits and spices. Down the throat effortlessly without being cloying nor heavy, no heat at all! Another dangerous stuff.....
