White
2016 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

By the half bottle at Les Amis, this was a very decent, food-friendly wine. There was a hint of ripeness in its plump white fruited nose, with tropical shades coming in at the sides, but these were underpinned by more classic Chablis aromas of chalk and just that hint of stony mineral. I should add that there was quite a bit of sulphur at first, but this blew off with time. The palate had a nice round ripeness in the attack, much like the nose suggested, with red apples lined with a burst of sweet, ripe lemons. It leaned up quite nicely on the midpalate though, with a spine of acidity and nice licks of spice and mineral leading into a mid-lengthed finish with a touch of salted butter to it. Nothing special, but a good, certainly well-crafted Chablis 1er Cru.
Red
2015 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
90 points
Not a bad village, especially when paired with a lovely Challans duck margret. The nose was really reserved for 2015, with a dusty, dried earth character along with wafts of black cherries, a hint of florals and a little spice. The palate had a nice elegant reserve to it, again surprising for the vintage, but no lack of depth - this showed more dark cherries seasoned with little bits of earth, mineral and just a tiny tiny kiss of spice, all trailing away into a decent finish. Firm tannins and just the right amount to acidity to hold it all in a tight balance completed the picture. All-in-all, decently good and food friendly. Just what one would want from a wine of this level.
