Introduction
Double blind Châteauneuf du Pape tasting
Sous vide rib cap with a grill mark sear, assorted purple and white russet potatoes and fresh baked french bread dipped in beef blood
Flight 1 - Customary white to start (1 note)
White
2017 Domaine de la Presidente Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Grands Classiques
89 points
Some vanilla and lemon notes with a touch of earth and tropical fruits. Has a waxy character on the palate.
Flight 2 - Main event (5 notes)
Red
2005 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Combe des Fous
96 points
Darkest ruby of the bunch. Very complex nose, kirsch, dark fruits, black raspberry, animalistic, so such going on in the bouquet. Round and rich on the palate, hitting on all cylinders. Just a fantastic wine. Finished 1 out of 5.
Red
2016 Saint Cosme Châteauneuf-du-Pape
93 points
Dark ruby in color. Raspberry, earth and a touch of menthol on the nose. Comes across as young on the palate. Has decent structure but absolutely a balanced wine. Finished 2 out of 5.
Red
2013 Chapelle St. Theodoric Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Guigasse
91 points
Light ruby in color. Feminine nose, with notes of rose petals and bing cherry. Well integrated on the palate. Balanced and integrated. I was surprised this wine was only 6 years old, came across older than that. Finished 3 out of 5.
Red
2000 Roger Sabon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Secret des Sabon
94 points
Cloudy red ruby in color. Dark cherry nose with faint animal fur (in a good way). On the palate, some grittier tannins that don't detract from the finish, flavors of black raspberry on a medium + finish. This continued to get better as the night went on. Finished tied for 4th out of 5.
Red
2001 Domaine Font de Michelle Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Etienne Gonnet
89 points
Color dark ruby with some cloudiness. Nose of rustic dark cherry. Nothing special on the palate, but not offensive either. Finished tied for 4th out of 5.
Closing
Great food, great company and some beautiful CDPs
