Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2013 Volpe Pasini Friuli Colli Orientali Pinot Grigio Zuc di Volpe Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Friuli Colli Orientali
N: TOASTY (?) with undertones of earth -- & notes of funk?

P: M, poss MF, body; Rndish entry with almost swtish frt & adequate offsetting acidity; The finish is LONG, & VERY slightly caramelly. A well made, nicely balanced wine that HAS peaked, it could still serve as an aperitif or with selected (lighter?) fare for the next 9-12 mos. [As of early Apr '20, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $29.48].
White
2011 Josmeyer Pinot Gris Le Fromenteau France, Alsace
From 40 yr old vines yielding 50 hL/ha; 14% ABV, 8 g/l R.S., & 4.8 g/l T.A.

N: Closed; Minerals/earth (POSS some funk?) with tough to ID frt way underneath

P: Med, poss MF, body; Rndish entry with swtish frt (threshold R.S.) NICELY counterbalanced by a crisp acidity which transitions into a long, very slightly bitterish, very, VERY slightly honied finish. Distinctly a wine of breeding now in decline, in the proper setting a STEAL @ the tasted (closeout) $5.95. [As of early Apr '20, wine-searcher shows no sources for this vintage].

Addendum: Also tasted on 5/23, 6/10, & 7/9/17
Red
2015 Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon H3 USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Horse Heaven Hills
Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage.

N: Slightly closed; Toast (+ choc?) atop berries with notes of earth; Cherries emerge with addt'l air/swirling.

P: Med, *poss* LM, body; Almost swtish frt met by a BIT of astringent pucker which seamlessly morphs into a LONG, ult pleasant finish. Certainly young, though everything SEEMS there in the context of the winery's generally oaky style. Particularly @ the tasted $9.95, a GOOD bet to cellar through the remainder of '17, if only to see precisely HOW it comes together! 86 pts (2x) winealign.com , + 3 scores & 1 medal on wine-searcher's Tasting Notes pg.. [As of early Apr '20, wine-searcher still shows 6 sources from $10-$16].
Red
2013 Celani Family Vineyards Siglo USA, California, Napa Valley
Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage.

N: Ripe blk cherries, poss plums, with choc undertones, & notes of coffee emerging with addt'l swirling/air

P: MF body; Rndish entry with ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by an astringent pucker which slowly works itself into a LONG, slightly spicy finish which shows just a TOUCH of swtness from time to time. Sweeter than I'D like, but well done in its style, & probably capable of drinking through '19. [As of early Apr '20, wine-searcher shows no sources for this vintage].
Red
2013 Jacuzzi Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Contra Costa County
N: Slightly closed; Berries with smoky notes -- & a touch of funk?

P: Med body; Swtish frt (threshold R.S.?) met by just enough astringent pucker to balance, this slowly & seamlessly morphing into a LONG, pleasant finish with a very, VERY slight tanginess. A very well made example of what I'd assume the winery intended: A party wine that can EASILY switch over to accompanying party-type fare. Drink through '18, poss '19? [As of early Apr '20, wine-searcher shows no sources for this vintage].

Addendum: Also tasted on 10/21/17
