Social distancing Dinner
Tasted April 18, 2020 by schan109 with 121 views
Introduction
Long-awaited gathering which limited 4-people as a group to comply with the policy to fight against COVID-19. It turned out we had a good wine flight, and wonderful night
Flight 1 - PM Whites (2 notes)
White
1996 Robert Ampeau & Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes
90 points
Slightly corked and faded fruit but it's still drinkable. It's slightly light and complex. It should have been a good wine.

2016 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon

Still a baby to me. very mouthful, intense with loads of fruit, honey. It takes a while to open up (30 min+), but it's worth to wait for his beauty. I will be tempted to taste this again 5 years from now
Flight 2 - GC family (one exception) (6 notes)
Red
2012 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
93 points
Bottle breathe from 5pm, served at 7pm. Expressive nose with floral, sweet. Clean and precise palate with racy fruit and long finishing. Light to medium weight (compared to Fourrier) but very approachable. Very good deal for the price tag.
Red
2011 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes
93 points
Bottle breathed for 2 hours before serving. Clean floral nose, and delicate. Fruit, complex and very balanced.

2011 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Vieille Vigne

Opened at 4pm for bottle breathe, and served at 8pm. Loads of fruit, and expressive nose. Deep layer of spice, floral, fruit added complexity, and long finishing. Full body (VV). A lot of potential. WOTN

2013 Sylvie Esmonin (Michel et Fille) Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques
91 points
Bottle breathe for 45 min (I think it should be 2 hours+). Classy and elegant nose. The palate is complex with balanced fruit, earthy note. Very decant Clos St Jacques which supersedes a lot of Grand Cru
I will give benefit of doubt by trying this again with longer breathe time

2012 Jean-Jacques Confuron Clos Vougeot

PnP. A bit over-chilled initially but it turned out to be right given the wine is still a bit tight. Jammy fruit, wood, herbs added the complexity but I struggled to open it up. Maybe we should breathe ahead next time.

2012 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chapelle-Chambertin

PnP (compared to bottle breathe Clos de Beze 2012 for 2.5 hours) as this is the last bottle opened. Very forward nose with loads of sweet and floral, which is welcoming. Clean, medium weight palate delivered good balance of fruit and herbs. Not very complex at Grand Cru standard, but very approachable young wine (which is common for Drouhin-Laroze). Recommended.
