Introduction

Group of 5 enjoyed a lovely evening with terrific food and wines..

Started off with a Prosecco, can't miss

Personal choices were the home made ravioli stuffed with sage, and served with crawfish in a brown butter sauce followed by New Zealand Venison with a red wine reduction and figs. Ended with a cheese plate; parmigiano reggiano was the prize

Flight 1 (1 note)

Red
2001 Brancaia Chianti Classico Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
90 points
Medium-bodied and with lovely deep color, and terrific fruit and well-balanced tannins; good value

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
2001 Falesco Lazio Montiano Italy, Latium, Lazio
92 points
Decanted, but still very closed up..over next two hours developed rounded mouthfeel with lots of tannins. Fruit came along slowly, but at the end there were plums and cherries..promise of real development. Needs at least 2 more years in the bottle before trying again

Closing

Interesting wines, great compliment to the foods; merlot with the venison was a great choice, but the merlot just didn't take off like it will in a few years
