Introduction

Jason provided all the reds and the other 3 of us each provided 1 white each. The 2008 Archery Summit Estate was clearly the best pinot. All the whites were quite good.

Flight 1 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2007 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs France, Champagne
94 points
Poured into 4 jars for transport at 5pm, drank at 6:30pm over 1 hr. This champagned is classy, clearly a bit young, and displaying many desirable characteristics. Lemon, seashell, white flowers, brioche and pear.
White
2012 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Art Series Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
93 points
Poured into 4 jars for transport at 5pm, drank at 6:30pm over 1 hr. Delicious, sweet, tangy, light, slight caramelization, some minerality and matchstick. The oak started off barely noticeable and did built over the 1 hr this was in front of me.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
1998 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Archery Summit Estate USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
89 points
Poured into 4 jars for transport at 5pm, drank at 7:30pm over 1 hour. There was a touch of beef blood, a touch of alcohol and the palate is dark.
Red
1999 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Archery Summit Estate USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
89 points
Poured into 4 jars for transport at 5pm, drank at 7:30pm over 1 hr. This was more heral and savory compared to the 1998 but qualitatively similar. It was drinking nicely although somewhat tired and no great complexity.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
2008 Sineann Pinot Noir Resonance Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
flawed
There was some conversation about whether this wine was oxidized and heat damaged. I'll assume heat damage.
Red
2008 Shea Wine Cellars Pinot Noir Homer Shea Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
92 points
Poured into 4 jars for transport at 5pm, drank at 8pm and over 1 hour. SIlky, gorgeous, some light vanilla. My notes show I found this crazy modern just a year ago, it seems to have calmed down significantly or there's bottle variation, or maybe this one got more air. This was still modern but not in a crazy way.
Red
2008 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Archery Summit Estate USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
93 points
Poured into 4 jars for transport at 5pm, drank at 8:30pm over 1 hr. Clearly new world with a grange yet delicious lean vegetal note. Silky tannins and good structure. I would drink this now.

Flight 4 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2010 Château Rieussec France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
95 points
Poured into 4 jars for transport at 5pm, drank at 9pm over 1 hour. This was as good as the last bottle. Great spice, complexity and sweet fruit. Orange blossom, mango, pineapple, creme brulee and honey.
