Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
1970 Berberana Rioja Gran Reserva Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
92 points
Pale ruby. Pronounced nose with dried red cherry, bit of mint, barnyard, darkish florals, and slightly honeyed and caramelised. Tannins completely rounded, with some acids, sour cherry, brine, barnyard, and mint, then liquorice at the back. Quite a long finish. Interesting how this wine managed to hold its own over 50 years
Red
1992 Bodegas Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero Gran Reserva Pesquera Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
93 points
Medium ruby, and some pinkish violet hue. Ripe fruited aromas, and very inky velvety feel, as well as dark florals. Quite a punch on the palate, with ripe cranberries, barnyard, and cloves. Long, fairly complex finish. Great wine!
Red
2001 Faustino Rioja I Gran Reserva Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
90 points
Deep ruby. Rustic barnyard aromas, with hay, as well as ripe redcurrants, toasted spices and coffee. Still strong tannins, and tight at the start, but with breathing starts to exhibit ripe redcherry and cranberry flavours, whilst having pepper and cloves, then toast, and coffee. Moderate finish

Red
2011 Clos Mogador Priorat Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
93 points
Deep ruby. Nose of ripe redcurrant and blackberry, and some hints of barnyard and rocket leaves, as well as black tar. Some tannin strength, while having intense blackberry and cassis flavours, as well as cloves, nutmeg, and green rocket leaves. The fruits extend to the back towards a pretty lengthy finish. Nice!
