First vacation in two years and thought it would be fun to do a Cali Cab tasting while taking in a gorgeous sunset on Maui.

Holy smokes what a great wine. I found a bottle hidden at Foodland in Maui on sale for $40 and added it to our $20, $40, $60 tasting.
Stunning nose - dark fruits including cherry and cassis. Punching complexity above its weight. Sublime finish. I could drink this all day, any day. Scary to think how good this wine could be in another 5+ years. Off the charts QPR.

I normally really like Hall wines - this wasn't a great showing and guessing it needs quite a bit more time.
Beautiful rich colour. Hints of oak on the nose. Medium tannin. Cherries. Some old world cues. Currently, the finish is quite harsh and at the price point it definitely underwhelmed.

Light in colour compared to the other two wines we tasted. It is what it is - an easy drinking Cali Cab that hasn't been overly doctored by the winemaker.
Closing
The Clos Du Val was the highlight of the night - simply blown away by how good the wine was.
