Introduction

Sat down to lunch at 1:00. Started with champagne and worked our way through 6 dishes and accompanying wines.

Flight 1 (8 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Ulysse Collin Champagne Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut (2017) Les Enfers France, Champagne
Beautiful golden color and crystal clear. Yeasty lemon/lime base with balsamic, strawberry and floral notes. Rich yet precise on the palate. Loved it.
White - Sparkling
2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne P2 France, Champagne
Fantastic wine. Golden and bright, clear and bubbly. The nose hit me with citrus, wild mint, herbs, brioche and some toasted yeast notes. The entry on the palate was rich and yeasty with pure fruit that tailed off long and citrusy. Simply delicious!

White
2013 Bernard Boisson-Vadot Meursault Les Grands Charrons France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Golden and clear in appearance. The nose was so floral - just beautiful - with wild mint, lemon, subtle perfume notes, some toast and citrus. The palate was explosive - simply unique - mid palate and an incredibly long slow descent to the finish. Clean yet fresh and perfectly made. A superb wine!
White
2011 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
This took a little time to open up. A beautiful lemon/gold color clear and bright. Thé nose expressed lemon green apple and late pineapple with some vanilla, wet stone and wild mint notes. After an hour there was almost a strawberry starburst character to the nose. At first a restrained palate of mostly citrus fruit but, with air, rich mid palate tropical fruit and a brilliant core of acidity. This finished long. Beautiful.
White
2015 Dominio del Aguila Albillo Viñas Viejas Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Light lemon in color and clear. The nose was lemon, stone dust, fur, sea and oyster shells. The palate was clean and precise with a long bell curve profile and a long crisp finish. Very tasty, well balanced and integrated wine.
Red
2002 Soldera (Az. Agr. Case Basse) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Ruby and clear with a medium opacity. Very little bricking at the edges. The nose was red cherry and other red fruits, orange zest, wet earth and dusty dry attic. Very well structured with round fine tannins. A core of bright acidity ran the length of the profile providing a spine for the fresh savory cherry fruits. Slow growing and powerful profile ended long. Super delicious!
Red
2004 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Sassicaia
Ruby to purple edging in color. It was clean and clear with deep opacity. The nose was black and dark fruits with wild herbs and tea notes. The mouth was rich and dark; a long profile expression of dark and peppery fruits made savory by some slight vegetal notes. Clean yet savory fruit finished long supported by full, silty tannins and well balanced acidity. Delicious
Red
2007 E. Pira & Figli (Chiara Boschis) Barolo Via Nuova Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Light opacity, ruby holding to the edges. Fascinating nose of earth and cherry with some floral touches. The palate was very bright and linear and carried forward a beautiful savory spiced cherry profile that left the palate clean after a long finish. I really liked this.

Closing

We had some evening bottles but I only took notes on the Barolo. Everything else was with lunch. We also had a birthday year Volnay that I didn’t record and a Biondi Santi that was corked. Summary: What a fantastic day!
