Introduction

We had a nice tight group of six tonight, (BB, BT, ML, MZ, JG, KB). Theme was the usual Bring a good bottle. We were at Tilia, so we were more skewed to white wines. It was a fun night with good food and outstanding service from Tyler as usual.

Flight 1 (9 notes)

White - Sparkling
2008 Edouard Brun & Cie Champagne Brut Millésimé France, Champagne
90 points
Light gold color. Drank a small glass over 45 minutes. Chalky minerality, white citrus, steely with a lot of dry extract. Very mineral driven and a bit coarse. Definitely a food Champagne.
White
2008 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Medium gold color. Just a small taste. Got to the party late and everyone had pretty much passed on this. It wasn't dead, really more dull and lackluster. The minerality is there, the fruit is not, certainly somewhat advanced, but based on notes, it may be what it is at this point. No score.
White
2014 Jean et Sébastien Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
91 points
Light gold color. Small glass over an hour plus. This improved with some air. Starts off showing some weight and wood, opens up to show more of the expected typicity. Earthy and seashore, lemon, medium plus bodied, apple, limestone. Quite nice in the end. 91+ to 92pts.
White
2005 Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
95 points
Light gold color. Drank a glass over 2 hours. This was flat out gorgeous tonight. Explosive nose, filled with slate, tons of earthiness, swampy salinity and seashore, lemon, Meyer lemon and stone. The palate is vital and fresh, there's an amazing zing here, pear and lemon curd, Meyer lemon, slate minerality, oyster shell, crisp and invigoratiingly dry on the ridiculously long finish. wow, best bottle of this by far, matching previous bottles of the Les Lys tonight.
White
2012 Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
93 points
Light gold color. Drank a glass over 2 hours. The nose shows plenty of wood spices up front, stone, lemon, lemon blossom, and white grapefruit. The palate shines with toasted oak barrels, lemon, a touch of lemon oil, full bodied yet very crisp, dried apples, some earth, grapfruit, and later a richer tart Tatin note on the back end. Lovely. 93+ to 94pts.
White
2014 Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
93 points
Almost medium gold in color. PNP, drank a glass over 2 hours and again 2 nights later. The story here is this still benefits from air. The first night this kept getting better and better. I think some thought it might be oxidative, but that was not the case. A little sweet on the nose, cream, almond pastry, anise, and fennel notes, pear,. This adds a richer baked apple note the next day. Full bodied, pear, oily and well textured, honeycomb, lemon oil, still steely in its minerality, long and mouth coating. I won;t be inany hurry to open my others. 92 day one and 93 day 2/3.

Dark red color. Drank a glass over 2 hours. Same bottle as JCGuthrie, decanted a couple hours and then several hours of slow-O. Lovely nose of deep damp earth, tar and creosote, black cherry, black licorice. The palate shows earth, black cherry, raspberry, tart, tangy, black licorice, taut with a hint of roasted meat, sanguin with round tannins. Really nice showing.
