Bandon Dunes PTI: 2012 Oregon Pinots
Bandon Dunes Resort
Tasted February 14, 2022 - February 15, 2022 by Grinner with 154 views
Introduction
All PNP and most in my Chrome Lake Suite. OCD me brought good pinot glasses. Just a true pleasure to have nice mature pinot after playing golf at a world class resort! 11-12 tasters/mostly not hardcore.
Flight 1 - Night One (6 notes)
Red
2012 Bergström Pinot Noir Bergström Vineyard
93 points
No serious notes taken on this 12 pack brought to Bandon Dunes, just fond memories. One of the better Bergstrom's I've had in years. Nice body / texture and very mellow / smooth.
Red
2012 Broadley Vineyards Pinot Noir Marcile Lorraine
93 points
93+! no notes, just really enjoyed, nice structure and a crowd favorite. Now-2025.
Red
2012 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir
91 points
No formal notes on all these '12's. Great balance and earth notes backing up the cherry fruit is what I remember.
Red
2012 Hyland Estates Pinot Noir Old Vine Coury Clone
92 points
No one had heard of it and everyone liked it, even the next day in a 68 degree hotel room overnight w/o gas.
Red
2012 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard
92 points
Better than a recent '12 Bryce from KW. Lovely depth and build. Now-2027

2012 Lemelson Vineyards Pinot Noir Mt. Richmond
93 points
This one had the benefit of being served with dinner at Pacific Dunes Grill. No formal notes, just lots of informal "woo-hoo's" amongst the golf gang. Don't wait too long with this one.
Flight 2 - Night Two (6 notes)
Red
2012 Ponzi Vineyards Pinot Noir Reserve
90 points
No formal notes. Not a show stopper, but very nice among friends in a resort room after golf! Nearing end of plateau.
Red
2012 Soter Pinot Noir Mineral Springs Ranch
94 points
WOTTrip! No formal notes but lots of glazed eyes and "ahh's" "oooh's. Great depth, concentration w/o being heavy, and looooong! Now-2025.
Red
2012 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Vitae Springs Vineyard
92 points
Another PNP in a resort room with no notes, but great results on the faces of the tasters! Nice acidity and fruit balance. Nearing end of plateau.
Red
2012 The Four Graces Pinot Noir Doe Ridge Estate
93 points
Probably the biggest wine of this trip and just a tad hot. But wow! Deep, dark and delicious. Not a purist's wine. Now-2025.
Red
2012 Winderlea Pinot Noir Winderlea Vineyard
flawed
VA! While I was sharing the issue with my half of the 12 person table, here comes Bob S, "Smell this!"
"I know Bob, it's called VA. You don't like nail polish in your wine??"
Thanks goodness we had one more bottle on the table to enjoy from a nearby winery (WillaKenzie).

Back to a nice solid pinot (under screwcap no less). No notes, but lots of relief after the previous bottle had VA.

Lots of great wines, good guys, fair weather, and I can't wait to do it again. Long live the Pacific Typhoon Invitational!
