Introduction

Weingut Korrell prepared 30 tasting kits of three of their 2021 single vineyard Rieslings, the 2021 Kirschheck, 2021 Dellchen, and 2021 Paradies. Korrell 's other single vineyard Rieslings (Klamm, Felsenberg and Im Honigberg) are produced in even smaller quantities and for the 2021 vintage are only available in a collector's box which includes one bottle of each of the six single vineyard Rieslings. The 10cl tasting samples were prepared from barrel and shipped about a week before the tasting.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2021 Weingut Korrell Johanneshof Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Germany, Nahe
91 points
Barrel sample, 10cl, shipped a few days before the tasting. The Kirschheck was picked a few days after the Paradies. Pale lemon colour. Light apple, hints of blossom and peach, and cherry pit, with lively acidity and very good length. Neat and clean. Pleasant light cherry pit bitterness on the finish. Elegant, and the lightest bodied of the three wines tasted today. I would pour this as aperitif. Very promising!

2021 Weingut Korrell Johanneshof Riesling Norheimer Dellchen Germany, Nahe
91 points
Barrel sample, 10cl, shipped a few days before the tasting. Pale lemon colour. Blossom, apple, citrus, peach, and light herbal notes, with good acidity and very good length. Very mineral. The fruit is a little riper and the acidity seems a little lower than in the Kirschheck, and the Dellchen is a little denser than the fresh and elegant Kirschheck. Very promising.

2021 Weingut Korrell Johanneshof Paradies Riesling Trocken Germany, Nahe
90 points
Barrel sample, 10cl, shipped a few days before the tasting. Pale lemon colour. Blossom, apple, citrus, peach, and mineral notes, with lively acidity and very good length. The ripest and fullest of the three wines tasted today. A little sugary at this youthful stage, making the wine seem less precise than the other wines, even a little flabby. Needs time to integrate the residual sugar. 90+ for now.

2019 Weingut Korrell Johanneshof Paradies Riesling Trocken Germany, Nahe
91 points
And a full bottle of the 2019 Paradies as a reference. Screw cap. Medium lemon colour. Ripe citrus, ripe peach, ripe lime, ripe grapefruit, and underlying mineral notes, with lively acidity and very good length. Medium- to full-bodied, with great concentration and good balance. Seems to have four or five grams of residual sugar, but it is well integrated. Should continue to age well.

Closing

It is very interesting to taste some of Weingut Korrell's 2021 Rieslings side by side. In this more difficult growing season, the differences between the single vineyards are more apparent than, say, in the very warm 2020 vintage.
