Introduction

My notes were almost nonexistent, and it seemed to be something of an off palate day so take these with a grain of salt.

Flight 1 (10 notes)

White
2004 Gulfi Sicilia Valcanzjria Italy, Sicily, Sicilia
Spicy, pit fruits, almond. Some creamy oak spice flavors on the finish.
White
2004 Gulfi Sicilia Carjcanti Italy, Sicily, Sicilia
A little toasty oak on the nose, tangy palate with orange marmalade, lemon zest, very juicy. Nice.
White
2005 Marco Felluga Collio Molamatta Bianco Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Collio
Aromatics a little muted but fresh, juicy on the palate with green apple, kiwi.
Red
2005 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Grignolino d'Asti Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Grignolino d'Asti
Light bodied with tart red fruits, earth, leaves, spice. Pleasant.
Red
2005 Azienda Vinicola Dacapo Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato Majoli Italy, Piedmont, Monferrato, Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato
Light, fresh crushed raspberry, earth, forest floor/pine. Unique.
Red
2004 Castello di Farnetella Chianti Colli Senesi Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Colli Senesi
Sour cherry, forest floor/juniper berries, earth. Chewy tannins. Nice little Chianti.
Red
2003 Castello della Paneretta Chianti Classico Riserva Torre a Destra Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Much denser than the Farnetella, packed with sweet cherry, earth. Quite tannic. Finish shows sweet oak notes.
Red
2004 Giacomo Grimaldi Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Nebbiolo d'Alba
Very lifted nose, maybe crossing into VA territory. Much better in the mouth, but was still distracted by ethyl acetate. Cherry, rose petal, earth, very tannic.
Red
1998 Massolino Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Kind of a muted nose. Flavors of rose petal, iron, tart cherry, earth. Very long finish. High quality, but for me this lacks freshness, tastes baked.
Red
2004 Oasi Degli Angeli Kurni Marche IGT Italy, Marche, Marche IGT
Dark, pitch black cassis, plum, earth, chocolate. Slightly sweet, as it is made from partially raisined fruit. Quite tannic. Like most wines of this type (save a few Sforzato) this didn't do a lot for me.
