Flight 2 (5 notes)

Red
2017 Telmo Rodríguez Rioja Lanzaga Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
90 points
Super fruity; cherries, black currant, black berry, laurel. Medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins, medium finish. 14 months on old french oak
Red
2014 La Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri Rioja Reserva Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
91 points
Drank this next to the Lanzaga from Telmo. I like this much more, maybe because this is how I expect Rioja to be? Lovely wood interwoven with black fruit (black currant, black berries) and laurel. Medium+ acidity, long finish
White
2018 La Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri Rioja Blanco Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
91 points
Felt a bit closed at this stage, despite the double decanting. Spices, soft lemon and lime, pear. Medium+ acidity, long finish. As I’m curious to see how it ages I bought a 2009 double magnum, let’s see!

91++
Red
2017 Bodegas Lanzaga (Telmo Rodriguez) Rioja Las Beatas Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
93 points
From a 1.9 ha vineyard in Alavesa with very low yields (6,5 hl/ha). Very, very young, despite a 10 hour decant. Already very balanced, so much potential here! Black olives, black berries, barnyard. Medium+ tannins and a long and lingering finish. 93/94+
White
2015 Dr. Loosen Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Telmo Rodriguez & Ernst Loosen Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
90 points
4 weeks of skin contact and then 2 years aging on old barrels from Telmo’s red wine. Interesting, but not how I like my riesling. Full, almost a bit creamy. Almost like a cider with mainly apple and bruised apple notes
