Introduction

Friend's birthday with a few different super great wines. Always nice to see old friends and really enjoyable.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White - Sparkling
1969 Taittinger Champagne Brut Millésimé France, Champagne
This was just delicious. It's old champagne and when the cork came out there wasn't a pop and yet there was a background fizziness to it. Lots of caramel and a bit of sweetness and definitely some oxidation. It was really enjoyable and a very nice pairing with the meat in Korean BBQ.
White - Sparkling
1979 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut France, Champagne
This is a pretty wonderful wine. Big and fresh and pretty and drinks really well. It's in the window but with a long life ahead. One of the best champagnes just hands down.

Red
1990 Château Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Also delicious (this was a night of great wine). It's dark and more spice cabinet and a bit of black fruits and generally and enjoyable wine. Classy.
Red
1989 Château La Fleur-Pétrus France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Again that more round and velvety style, lots of red fruits, just a hint of white pepper. It's drinking well but probably on the young side and with a lot of life left to it. Just barely getting into the secondary notes.
