Introduction

M. Brice de La Morandière was in town and I participated in Leflaive dinner. He took over the domaine in 2015 and drastically improved the quality immediately. The 19s are some of the best white Burgundies the 20s are supposedly even better. Domaine Leflaive is quickly becoming one of the top three Domaines in Burgundy.

Good concentration, nicely layered generous white fruit, rich yet showing good balance, medium acidity and mineral, and a medium to long delicious white fruit driven finish. This delicious wine shows nice balance.

White
2001 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
93 points
Directly from the Domaine and reconditioned. Light golden color but the nose is correct. Beautifully mature nose displaying mature yellow fruit, peach, white peach, crème brulee,, beeswax, sweet spices and light mineral. Good concentration, mature yellow fruit, warm, round and fluid, medium acidity and mineral, and a seamless mature yellow fruit driven finish with a hint of butter scotch at the end. This is richer than the Combettes This needs to be drunk soon.
White
2001 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
94 points
Directly from the Domaine and reconditioned. Light golden color. Beautiful mature nose displaying delicate yellow fruit with a hint of white, peach, lemon curd, marzipan, oyster shell and wet stone. Perfectly integrated palate, nicely layered subtle white fruit, very elegant yet expressive and generous, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long subtle yellow fruit driven finish with oyster shell at the end. This shows better balance than the Folatieres. This needs to be drunk.

Flight 4 - Grand Crus (3 notes)

White
1999 Domaine Leflaive Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
96 points
Directly from the Domaine and reconditioned. Perfectly mature yet fresh nose displaying delicate yet generous yellow fruit with a hint of white, apple, peach, sesame, oyster shell, sweet spices and limestone. Beautifully mature palate, finely layered mature yellow and white fruit, beautifully balanced, delicate and harmonious, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long mature yellow and white fruit driven finish with sesame and oyster shell at the end. Beautiful showing.
White
2004 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
flawed
Directly from the Domaine and reconditioned. En magnum. Too dark and the nose reflex. IMO, premoxed or at least really tired. Still showing the 04 LBT taint, some may detect as strong pyrazine.
White
1993 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
92 points
Fully mature nose displaying very ripe subtle yellow fruit, peach, butter scotch, sweet spices and shy mineral. Fully integrated palate, nicely layered mature yellow fruit, sweet, warm and round, medium acidity, very little mineral, and a medium long ripe yellow fruit driven finish. Although enjoyable, this should have been drunk a decade ago.

Flight 5 - Night cap (1 note)

Red
2014 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Corton Domaine Prince Florent de Merode France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
95 points
Youthful classic complex DRC nose displaying decadent red and black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, strawberry, liquid incense, Vosne spice, DRC stem, rose, light caramel, sweet spices and earth. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered sweet black and red fruit, fluid and pure, beautifully balanced. Perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long decadent black and red fruit driven finish with DRC stem at the end. There is noticeable tannins of Corton.. I am amazed by the strong DRC expression. Drinking incredibly well for such a young wine.
