White
2016 Pott Wine Viognier 20m3 USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder
93 points
Last bottle of this unique Viognier from this vintage...first wine of a big night. Chilled, served as an aperitif.

From prior notes: "Light gold/hay color. Perfumed nose, showing some orchard fruits and dried floral notes. Palate of lemon, white flowers, melon. Orchard fruits, white peach persist through the mid palate. Medium weight and finish..."

Has held up well, still expressive, citrus notes still there, more rounded. A great Summer wine. Was not sure this one would have made the journey. Should have a few more years in it
White
2016 Aubert Chardonnay Larry Hyde & Sons USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
96 points
Second wine of the evening, slightly chilled. Open for about 30 minutes prior to serving. Had with salads and first courses.

Rich gold color. Nose showing lemon/citrus, minerals. Plate of candied tropical fruits, pineapple and butterscotch. Full body, long finish.

A real "wow" showing for this wine, crowd loved it. Great set up for the rest of the evening. This has a way to go if wanting to cellar.

Red
2016 Big Table Farm Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
93 points
Fun to share this wine with the group, doing a detour into Oregon wine was a nice add to the range of wines. Double decanted back into the bottle. Had this open pre dinner for a taste, with appetizer course as well.

Notes from 2020:"Bright ruby color, translucent. Nose showing dark raspberry, cherry cola, spice, dried flowers. Smooth and polished palate shows bright red fruits, red licorice, minerals, floral pastille. Red fruits, cherry candy persist through the mid palate. Medium weight, medium/long finish..."

The decant gave this a chance to evolve more than last showing. From memory, the wine seemed to have more depth than last showing. Still evolving, in a great spot now. Should have a long arc in front of it. Crowd loved this one...
Red
2001 Bodegas Muga Rioja Torre Muga Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
93 points
Been a few years since visiting with this vintage. Decanted and strained, past bottles had some sediment, this one no different. Had this open for about an hour prior to drinking, had with the cheeses for a quick taste and had some with the beef

Dark and opaque/cloudy garnet, some thinning at the edge. Nose showing red fruits, cedar, saddle leather. Classic Rioja palate, rustic and fruit forward. Dark cherry, orange zest. Dry and smooth palate. Medium body and finish.

Took about 30 minutes to show at the start. In a good spot right now, should drink at this level for a while. Fully mature (IMO) not going to improve much from here. Great showing on this night
Red
2016 Domaine Divio Pinot Noir Willamette Pinot Noir Barrel Auction USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
94 points
Great chance to open an Oregon Auction Wine, loved this one from the barrel. Sharing with old friends is always a reason to share a special wine...

From prior notes 2020: "Bright ruby color. Nose showing black raspberry, cherry cola, herbs, baking spice. Bright and expressive palate of red and blue fruits, spice cake, floral pastille. Energetic and bright at this stage. Medium weight and finish...splash in the glass tasted an hour later had evolved considerably (caramel, floral and earth notes...)"

It was up to the task on this evening. The caramel, floral notes were really prominent on the mid palate. Black raspberry and red fruits on the front palate.Wine has continued to evolve and seems like it will continue. The 2016s in my cellar are in a great spot right now, worth drinking.

Red
2012 Round Pond Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Premiere Napa Valley Lot 19 USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
95 points
Had to bring a PNV for this event, Round Pond always consistent and the 2012s likely in their peak for the next 5 years...decanted for about 2 hours prior to drinking.

Since I am the only note here...summing it up this was outstanding on this evening. Really singing, Rutherford fruit with a healthy decant was perfect. Among a big lineup, this was my WOTN.
