Introduction

Impromptu supper at B&E's with the only disclosure being roast beef...

Flight 1 - supps (4 notes)

white matched to charcuterie and nibbles, reds to standing T-bone roast

White
2019 Stéphane Ogier Côtes du Rhône Le temps est venu Blanc France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
Waxy, stone fruit notes on the nose...juicy, fresh, stone fruit - a little dilute apricot, slightly bitter on the finish. Nice.
Red
2012 S.C. Pannell The Vale Shiraz Grenache Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Very slight reductive, blackberry cordial, sweet spice, cream, quite fruit lozenge. Juicy, talc textured tannins, fruit sweet on the palate, slight alcohol warmth is non intrusive. Despite ten years of age this is still quite primary. Clean, pleasant.
Red
2012 Jean-Luc Colombo Cornas Les Terres Brulees France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
A little farmyard, savoury black fruits, touch of peppery underpin, slightly sour black fruit, rocky minerality works in conjunction with the tannins which are slightly drying, liquorice, touch gamey on the finish, complex but just okay for me.

Red
2013 Redman Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Ooh, it's quite bretty! Ripe red hued fruit beneath this and a touch of leather on the nose. In the mouth it has medium plus intensity acidity, slightly chalky textured tannins persist long with that ripe red hued fruit, smidge of alcohol alcohol warmth on the finish. The bretty note persists as well.
