Introduction

Stopped by after work to learn a bit more about Burgundy.

Flight 1 - Domaine Bouchard (6 notes)

Two whites and four reds.

White
2020 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Clos St. Landry Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
92 points
Nose of soft peaches, minerals, white and orange flowers and skin of a papaya.

On the palate was good acidity, dulled honey (not in a bad way), gentle bitterness, dried stone and earth, a slight note of hay, and similar fruits from the nose.

My favorite white of the lineup. Had a more fresher approach than
White
2020 Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Poruzots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
92 points
Aromas of deeper and more ripe yellow stone fruits, a soft touch of honey with a darker streak of minerals, and white flowers.

On the palate was also good acidity with a deeper, almost darker fruit, just a bit, not a whole lot. Slightly more bitter minerals and hay. There's also notes of honey comb but without any of the honey.

A touch heavier on the palate compared to Clos St. Landry
Red
2020 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mousse France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
91 points
Nose of fresh and youthful red berries, almost like the neon red fruits I get from a central coast Grenache (I guess Jolly Ranchers is the next closest thing if "neon" makes no sense). Flowers and grass, and a really hidden funk. That subtlety of the funk makes it really nice.

The palate had softly bitter red fruits, bitter minerals, and dried rotting tree bark on a forest floor.
Red
2020 Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
92 points
Beautiful nose of dark and subtle ripe dark red berries with dark blue fruits, purple and red flowers with gentle hay and grass.

On the palate was dark cranberries, skin and all, dark bitter minerals, damp yet bright oak (almost comes off like tobacco), and pulverized spicy stone.

The spicy stone was a nice touch of complexity there. I remember the few Burgundy I've had before had too much of it. This had a really nice balance of it.
Red
2020 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
93 points
Nose of a slightly stronger neon red berries (in a good way), darker red floral notes, and a bit of stones and a running river.

On the palate was red berries and cranberries, with some time the red fruits transitions away from the cranberry notes. Other notes of tall grass in a pond, wet and shiny minerals, and a gentle spice on the tail end.
Red
2020 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Le Corton France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
94 points
Aromas of dark red fruits, dark earth, soft but dark red flowers with dark green stems, black dry stone, even a bit of grilled meats with nice spices.

Flavors of dark red fruits like red and blue plums with a gentle but deep dark earth note. Flavorful fruit and earth. Soft spices on the tail end with bitter minerals.

Nice complexity here without anything throwing the whole flavor profile off. The wine also has a fuller mouthfeel without being overdone. My favorite red of the lineup.

Good line up and they lined it up in a pretty good order. Burgundy can get pricey quickly for what you get in the bottle.. but who am I kidding, that's everywhere I guess.
