Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Gatinois Champagne Grand Cru Brut Rosé France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Intense, focused, mineral and dry. This is serious rose with beautiful structure and a taut and linear personality. Very impressive.
White
2017 Albert Mann Gewurztraminer Furstentum Vieilles Vignes France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
94 points
Just shy of medium- sweetness, this is a hedonistic example of Gewurtz, that offers up textbook lychee, rose, and bacon fat(!) aromas. The texture is opulent, but the acids structure of the palate keeps the wine in check, finishing with a very long and involving finish. Stunning match with a shallot tarte tatin .

2010 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
94 points
Superb Volnay, that is all iron ore, mineral, earth and dense black cherry fruit. A lick of oak adds a hint of cream on nose and palate. Taut structure, but showing mature evolution. This is Burgundy in a very serious and savoury style. Stood up too, and happily complemented a mature 2009 Barolo drink alongside it.

2009 Comm. G.B. Burlotto Barolo Cannubi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Drunk next to an outstanding premiere cru Volnay, never have the similarities between Barolo and Burgundy been quite as clear to me. A very forward example for Cannubi, with ripe cherry fruit, a touch of tar, and plenty of minerality. The palate is soft (although the tannins are certainly lurking!), open, but also focused. A very classy drop, that shows beautiful refinement in an easy drinking (by Barolo standards), and forward manner. Open for business.
