Flight 1 - Opening (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2008 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut France, Champagne
After last month's bottle was so tight I wanted to give this another chance with plenty of air, so opened and recorked 5 hours before dinner. So incredibly tight on opening, it relaxed some over the afternoon, but was still very shut down. A bit disappointing as I had hoped the lovely lemon curd and white fruits would be more prominent as they were a couple of years ago. This seems to be officially in a dumb phase right now and probably won't open another one until at least next year.

White - Sparkling
1996 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
PnP. So beautiful and ethereal. I was worried that it would be shut down like the bottle we had last fall, but this was surprisingly open and continued to open up with more air. So much class and structure while being airy and lifted. Completely outshined the Cristal tonight.

Flight 2 - Charmes (3 notes)

White
1978 Maison Leroy Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
PnP. Cork fairly well disintegrated even with the Durand. Fairly dark color. Nose was like grandma's attic at first. The funk never really blew off, it just morphed into different versions of dusty and then into fish tank. Palate was a completely different story, so fresh and young tasting with vibrant acidity and a wonderful butterscotch note with a lingering finish. Fun to try and really enjoyable as long as you didnt sniff before sipping.
White
2010 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
PnP. So very good. Bright minerality, orchard fruits and floral notes with acid all in balance. A nice depth of layered complexity. White of the night for me.
White
2012 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
PnP. More tropical than the 10, this was a charming wine, but didn't have the same level of depth and interest. Very drinkable and wide open right now, very enjoyable.

Flight 3 - Perrières (2 notes)

White
2020 Michel Bouzereau et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Quick decant. Such a beautiful wine, very expressive right out of the gate. Great acid backbone and lovely white fruit. Extremely enjoyable drink.

White
2014 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Quick decant. Needed tons of air. So much acid on the forefront and hidden fruit. Just tasted painfully young especially against the 2020 Bouzereau that was wide open.

Flight 4 - Older Richebourg (2 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Opened an hour before pouring. Very delicate and unctuous. Didn't have the signature DRC nose upfront. Some commented it seemed more developed than expected for its age. I agree, but I like the development. Lifted red fruit and silky tannins. Had more of the DRC signature on the finish. Not the WOTN by any means but a very enjoyable drink.
Red
2007 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Opened an hour before pouring. This had a stemmy greenness that was more prevalent compared to the 06, but was also more structured and tighter knit. Air time revealed different layers and the purple fruit and muscular energy one expects from Richebourg.

Flight 5 - Younger Richebourg (3 notes)

Red
2012 Gros Frère et Sœur Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Opened an hour before pouring. This is in a beautiful place with bright red fruit and a wonderful depth of flavor. Really wide open out of the gate, over time it started to show a bit of VA that was a bit overwhelming for my palate.

Red
2013 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Opened an hour before pouring. Classic DRC signature oak on the nose with purple fruit and soft tannins. This is a beautiful wine, much less powerful than the 14 beside it. Right now though this is drinking in a wonderful spot with plenty of upside. WOTN.
Red
2014 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Opened an hour before pouring. Much more structured and unyielding out of the gate, this needed lots of air to start to show. Strong, muscular core with dark purple fruit and a finish for days. This has the longest window, but just not as ready to drink tonight compared to the 13. Probably was even better the next day after it relaxed a bit.
