2009 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
91 points
Decanted off a small amount of settled sediment. Medium ruby, clear; medium-intensity aromatics, black pepper, gamey spice; medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, balanced, integrated fruit, medium tannin, well integrated; finish is medium-plus length. A very solid northern rhone, maybe unexceptional but still very enjoyable. 92
Tasting again a few hours in bottle, this is balanced but lacks the intensity and complexity of the Chave St Joseph, by far. 91
White - Sparkling
2018 Champagne Suenen Champagne Grand Cru Oiry Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Aromatic, lemon curd, yeast and brioche; palate is medium bodied, lemon peel with slight bitterness, medium acidity; finish is medium length. Well balanced, but not quite with the length or complexity that I would have expected for something that has become so fashionable recently. 90
White
2017 Domaine Eleni et Edouard Vocoret Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
93 points
Light golden; high intensity aromatics, incredibly tropical with mango and melon, also with freshness, lemons; palate is medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, again plenty of tropical fruit balanced by absolutely lovely freshness; medium-plus finish. This is strikingly good, drink now. 93-94

2019 Château d'Issan France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
91 points
Double decanted 6 hours. Aromatic, black fruited, blackberry; palate is full bodied, soft tannins, black fruits, some capsicum, good balance; finish is medium length. A bit soft textured compared to other young Bordeaux I’ve tried, but otherwise a really lovely and approachable Bordeaux. 91-92

2001 Maison Albert Bichot Richebourg Domaine du Clos Frantin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
91 points
Light ruby with significant bricking; aromatic, some vosne spice; palate is light-medium bodied, toasty, some vanilla spice, integrated mature fruit; finish is medium length. Ready to drink now, enjoyable as mature burgundy but perhaps not top level Richebourg. 90-91
Red
2011 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave St. Joseph France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
93 points
Awesome, incredible black and pink peppercorn, smoky, meaty spice, bacon fat; palate is medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, wonderful Syrah complexity with some game, spices, meaty musk; finish is long. This is spectacular Syrah in a less than spectacular vintage. 93-94+
