Introduction
I was lucky enough to get an invitation to this rather good trade tasting again. Unfortunately I wasn't able to spend as much time as I wanted to so focussed on imports mostly.

2021 Geoff Weaver Chardonnay
Struck match, peachy stone fruit, chalky minerality, slight malolactic lends a little buttery note, touch of citrus. In the mouth it's juicy, fleshy, reductive notes translate here as well as a little textured burr, fruit a little muted beneath this.

2013 Geoff Weaver Chardonnay
Closed, dusty, slightly reductive, touch of tinned peaches, fresh herbs. In the mouth it's tangy, fleshy but also quite closed here as well. Needs time to open.

2021 Emmanuelle Bekkers Petit Chablis
Peaches, lemon, slight sweet spice, clean. Juicy, tangy, fresh peachy, a little texture. Simple, very nice.

Medium minus intensity aromas of red berry, sweet spice, savoury underpin, palate offers far more; tangy, savoury, drying grip, red and black fruits, interesting.

Medium minus intensity aromas are slightly reductive, muted dark fruits. Medium plus intensity acidity, savoury, tangy, red and black fruits, drying.

Lovely blackberry, touch of pepper, nice nose. Juicy, fleshy, textured burr, blackberry, peppery, lovely.

Smells 'crunchy', black fruits, a little perfume and pepper. Super fresh and vibrant, talc textured persistent tannins. Nice

2021 Toby Bekkers Syrah Clarendon Vineyard
Pretty, jubey, blackberry, slightly funky, generously fruited, pink peppercorn. Juicy, fleshy, sweetly fruited, generous, talc textured tannins persist long, a little peppercorn note and a touch of non-intrusive alcohol warmth. Yum.

2021 Capel Vale Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label
Pyrazine, blackcurrant, sweet spice, cedar. More of the same on the palate, chalky tannins. Okay.

2019 Domaine Naturaliste Cabernet Sauvignon
Blackcurrant, pyrazine, clean a little sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, a little chocolate joins blackcurrant, big drying but silky tannins, simple, nice.

Slight blackcurrant, cream, slight sweet spice, cedar. Slightly sour, a little hard, fruit is pretty but lost. Meh

A little polished oak, blackcurrant, sweet spice, plain chocolate. Tangy, juicy, chocolate, blackcurrant, sweet spice, cedar.

Slight red fruit jam, blackcurrant, cream, polished oak. Juicy, tangy, a little bitter tannins, tight. Not very nice.

Leather, earth, plummy fruit. Juicy, plummy, earthy, leather, floury textured tannins. Meh.

Medium minus intensity aromas are ripe, plummy, mineral notes, a little sweet spice but pretty awful on the palate - disjointed, clumsy, sweet and sour and bitter. Odd. Nah.

Jubey almost, savoury, red berry fruit smells a little sour, dried flowers. Sourly juicy, lacks tannins (Wah?). Not right.

aromas of lemon, herbaceous noes, slightly floral, lees work. Tangy, savoury, bitter. Meh

Light citrus, bees wax, saline. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, slightly bitter lemon, textured burr.

Gooseberry, green apple. A little butter and cream joins the fruit on the palate, simple, a little soft.

Oily pear (?), smells thick, surprisingly juicy and fleshy. On the palate it's fruit generous, simple, okay.

Lime, apple, mineral, a little fresh spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, quite bitter lime in the mouth. Meh.

Gooseberry, cats pee, capsicum, slight ashy notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, fleshy, less green on the palate. Okay

Cream, muted lemon, saline, a little stone fruit. Juicy, tangy, citrus, slight saline, long, okay.

Lemon, very slight creamy lees. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, citrus, simple, medium plus intensity length <shrugs>

Peachy, butter, cream, stone fruit, slight sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, stone fruit, a little burr, butter/cream. Nice.

Medium minus intensity aromas of lemon over stone fruit, a little mineral note. Medium plus intensity acidity, super tangy, citrus over stone fruit, slight textured burr. Nice.

2022 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé
From Magnum. Pretty red berry with a funky underpin and savoury complexity, more of the same on the palate, alcohol helps carry the finish long. Savoury, yum.

funky savoury, almost whole bunch notes, red berries, very slightly ashy note in the mouth, savoury red berries, talc textured tannins. Hmm.

Slight wood glue, baked red fruits, savoury spice. In the mouth it has baked red and black fruits, coarse flour textured tannins, lacks acidity. Meh.

This has a bit of a Musar nose; rocky minerality, a little volatility, wild ferment, funky, baked red and black fruit but without the Brett or oxidation. In the mouth it's much of a muchness to the nose, chewy, tight, tough tannins, baked fruit. Woof. I'd have to be in the right mood to play with this...
Closing
big crowded elbows tasting. I have no idea why people stand in front of the tables instead of just taking a taste, moving back, trying the wine and then stepping forward to get the next wine they want to taste.
