Flight 1 (9 notes)

White - Sparkling
1993 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
Deep gold, some fizz, but it faded quite quickly, very very buttery, a very slight musty tone. This was enjoyed, but really it's past it.
White
1993 Mount Pleasant Wines Sémillon Elizabeth Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
90 points
Deep gold, superbly toasty, and still fresh. A lovely bottle, but it was overpowered by the Prum alongside
White - Off-dry
1993 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
Another deep gold one, slightly volatile nose, thick and smooth on the palate, a touch of petrol, still fairly sweet. Lovely wine, but not as vibrant as some.
Red
1993 Penfolds Bin 389 Australia, South Australia
flawed
Oxidised
Red
1993 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
90 points
Earthy, lean, edgy, quite sharp - but a lovely fresh graphite claret experience.
Red
1993 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
94 points
This too a bit volatile, but it was still glorious. Lifted, sharp, some earthiness, sap, some undergrowth, and all so lively and fresh. Brilliant.
Red
1993 Mount Pleasant Wines Shiraz Maurice O'Shea Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
90 points
A replacement for the oxidised 389, this acquitted itself very well - soft, mellow, with sweet shiraz fruit. Very pretty.
Red
1997 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Goulots Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
92 points
Gorgeous mellow mature Gevrey, sous bois, sweet middle. Lovely gentle wine.
Red
2007 Domaine Fourrier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
93 points
Not unlike the Goulots, but naturally more vigorous - this was a lovely sappy mid-wight burgundy at its peak
