Introduction

I had other wines than the ones mentioned in this story, all were quite good, but unfortunately took no notes so I cannot remember some of the names or vintages. Therefore this story is only about wines I pulled from my cellar.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
2013 Marcassin Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
94 points
PnP - Nose is filled with cherry blossom and cedar notes, with a little bramble and tar. Palate is amazing as always, featuring red fruit with some black cherry. This wine is developing nicely with some earthy notes, bramble and sweet oak, that is well integrated. Had I glass and followed it for about 30 minutes. Nice, polished finish. No hurry on these, but drinking quite well! 94+, and that may be conservative!

Red
2004 Château Lafleur France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
96 points
PnP - I probably did this wine a dis-service by not decanting, but was a last second addition at a party. I will say this bottle drank much better than the last time I had this wine! It was definitely open for business, and even though it only got about 30 mins of air in the glass, it was showing remarkable balance between fruit and tertiary goodness! This wine was actually leaning slightly toward the tertiary side of the spectrum, but still showed plenty of red and black fruit, surrounded by earth, gravel, graphite and forest floor with hints of cocoa. Surprisingly balanced with acidity and tannins, especially for a Right Bank 2004 wine.

Not sure if it was my low expectations or just a much better bottle, but this was surprisingly good! A solid 96 for my discerning palate! Absolutely loved it!

Red
2010 Vieux Château Certan France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
96 points
PnP (30 mins of slo-O) - but let it get about 30 mins of additional air in the glass. What can I say, I love VCC! This is still young and primary, but the fruit is remarkable and certainly still at the forefront of this wine. Lots of cherry (dark and red) with notes of pomegranate and some tertiary flavors of earth, leather and forest floor lurking in the background. This wine is still all about the purity of fruit. An easy drinker and crowd pleasing wine. Very different from the 2004 Lafleur that preceded it, but scored similarly for different reasons. Glad I have a few of these as they will bring years of enjoyment! Solid 96 tonight!

White - Sparkling
2008 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut France, Champagne
98 points
PnP - This Champagne never disappoints! Layers of golden fruit and minerality with small bubbles that coat the mouth in luxury. The palate is filled with poached pear, honeydew, brioche and oyster shell with some limestone and chalk and an amazing finish. Still a standard bearer for Champagne! I absolutely adore and am smitten by the 2008 vintage! 98 points for my palate!

Great night with good food, good wines and great people! Was nice meeting new people who love wine! Hope you enjoyed this story even though it is remarkably short. However, the wines were remarkably good, so I think they make up for the inept story that only encompasses a small portion of the wines served! Cheers and happy holidays!
