Aromas of very ripe fruit, and some cellar dust initially that faded with the emergence of some serious green bell pepper hiding just a bit of mint. THe mouthfeel was pleasantly soft, with low acidity. FInish wasn't super long or short. Some at the table thought it was over the hill, but Cindy and I quite liked its aged personality.

I thought this was just plain bad. The nose was incredibly vegetal, much like the 1997, but also coated with diesel. I can't stand gasoline in my wines. Worst of the night.

Winner! This was the only wine of the HH vertical that I would ever consider purchasing. The fruit presence was much increased, as was the tannic structure. The tinge of greeness, ever present in this blend, was there but not overpowering. In comparison to other years, this one smelled sweetly smokey at times.

Nose: vanilla, hint of diesel, and perhaps some cinnamon, though that may have been 'suggested' by someone near me and I wrote it down...
THe palate had too much alcohol for my taste, and a preponderance of oak. Not as bad as the 1998, but not enjoyable.

This wine had subdued and mellow green pepper. A softer wine overall, with oak and even some spiceyness. Low tannin. Long finish. Not bad.

More caramel oak aromas on this wine compared to older examples. Alcohol was too strong, though.

My second favorite of the vertical, after the 1999. I don't know that I would buy this one, though. The nose had a similar smokiness to the 1999, plus some floral notes. It tasted more vegetal than any of the other bottles. Celery was obvious, (and I like vegetables, but not celery). Overall, I felt this was flatter than the 1999.

Nose was super tight. The palate had more red fruit than previous vintages, and the fruit exhibited here was brighter and red-toned.

Herbal nose on this compared to earlier vintages. The tannin on this wine was bitter - imbalanced by fruit (or lack thereof). Would not buy for whatever Delille is charging. Would certainly not buy for $75 in the wineshop.
