Introduction
New years eve with wife, kids and neighbours. I did all the cooking.
Flight 1 - Snacks (1 note)
Mini-crostini: 1) foie gras with red onion in red wine, 2) quail eggs with truffle, 3) buffalo mozzarella with chili.
White - Sparkling
1996 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
95 points
Light yellow. Persistent light mousse. Very high pitched, elegant and impressive. Perhaps a bit closed compared to previous samplings.
Flight 2 - First course (2 notes)
Lobster variations: lobster bisque, lobster claws with melted butter, pieces of lobster tail in white sauce. The white burgundy was used for the bisque.
White - Sparkling
2000 Launois Pere et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Special Club Blanc de Blancs
93 points
Yellow with aggressive mousse. Nice nose of nutty fruit and wheat bread. Fat, intense and long. Great, but perhaps lacks a bit finesse.
White
2005 J.M. Boillot Bourgogne Blanc
90 points
My 8th bottle of this in 2 years. Doesn't disappoint. Seems to have put on weight and drinks well above appellation.
Flight 3 - Main course (2 notes)
Tournedos Rossini with peas a la francaise. A perfect match the the la chapelle!
Red
2005 Château Pesquié Ventoux Quintessence
92 points
Consistent note. Very good QPR. Great balance. Good development wiht air.
Red
2003 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle
95 points
Very dark red. Impressive nose at opening which has toned down a bit after 4 hours in the decanter, but still reveals plenty of blackberries, blueberries, spicy and minty notes, pepper and licorice. Very powerfull with all the right elements, but not into place yet. The sense of power married to restraint gives an impression of very balanced wine even if its far from seamless at this point. I think this is starting to shut down a bit, but its still a remarkable wine.
Flight 4 - Cheese (1 note)
Stilton and a soft white cheese.
Flight 5 - Cake (0 notes)
When the bell rang we had "kransekage" and some ridiculous Austrian bubbly with little pieces of 23 carat gold in it....
