Introduction

Danny and Jules were in Hong Kong and Danny generously decided to open some of his 'older' wines for us! A good selection, hopefully coupled with my roast pork and veg!

Flight 1 (7 notes)

Red
2005 Greenock Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
90 points
Clean bright fruit, a little alcohol comes through later. Well balanced so should last.
Red
1996 Glaetzer Shiraz Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
93 points
Colour showing some age. Waft of smoke, some dried mint, little bit of alcohol comes through on the end of the nose. Palate is mellow, a little edge to it but drinking beautifully.
Red
2004 Mitolo Cabernet Sauvignon Serpico Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
90 points
Nose is a little green, menthol, a little lean. Palate is a little fuller, taut.
Red
2005 Glaetzer Godolphin Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
95 points
Wow, this is fantastic. Some chocolate and 'get the coconut' otherwise complex nose; also hints of tobacco. Palate is full and lush. Lovely balance and great finish, shame it got drunk.
Red
2000 Jim Barry Shiraz The Armagh Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
90 points
No notes taken but an improvement. Fuller and some lushness, finish is short.
Red
2002 Haan Shiraz Prestige Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
92 points
Brett nose although not bad: farmyard more than manure. Bacon fat. Palate is soft and a little flabby. Decent, if a little short and sweet finish
Red
1997 Penfolds Shiraz St. Henri Australia, South Australia
88 points
Sweet nose with a hint of cinnamon. Palate is, um, lean.

Closing

There was a Charles Melton 01 and a Kalleske Clarrys after this lot but no notes taken. The Goldolphin took the wine of the day for me and in general all the wines were worth the time Danny (and Graham) took to get them!
