Introduction
All wines tasted blind.
Flight 1 (8 notes)
Red
2004 Georges Lignier et Fils Charmes-Chambertin
Soft candy on the nose but not overly sweet. Spicy on the palate. Relatively young with extrovert fruit and tannins.
Red
1999 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir Laurène
Sweet and warm on the palate. Medium bodied with berries and soft tannins. Much like a 2003 Burg.
Red
2000 Jean-Jacques Confuron Clos Vougeot
Classic Burg nose. Very smooth and silky with the elegance and complexity worthy of a grand cru. Very persistent and in the sweet spot of its drinking window. WOTN.
Red
2002 Domaine Jacques Prieur Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Soft sweet nose. Tough tannins. Will not be ready for a while.
Red
2001 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers
Full bodied with plums and soft tannins. Complex but not too persistent.
Red
2001 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos de La Bussière
Warm nose of cherries. Full bodied with red berries. Vegetal finish.
Closing
How could I forget take down the details of the last wine? Other than my tasting notes, all I wrote were “1996 monopole grand cru”! Anyway, the notes read “Full bodied with good acidity and a very classic finish. Much younger than it really is and will keep for a very long time.”
