Introduction

Last minute get together. I "remembered" that I like Carmenere and the 2007 CdR was a pleasure at $12. I'll skip the Taittinger, however, and keep pursuing a medium priced champagne to store at home.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
2005 Montes Purple Angel Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley
Dark purple, intriguing nose of bright fruit and spice. Sweet juicy fruit, plums and chocolate. A very big wine, but not a fruit bomb.
Red
2007 Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils Côtes du Rhône Villages France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages
All fruit right out of the bottle and opening up in less than 30 mins in the glass to show roasted meat, pepper, dark fruit and a touch, not much, of earthiness. This was a treat.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Taittinger Champagne Brut Réserve / La Française France, Champagne
Small bubbles, medium yellow color, a sharp nose of yeast and not much else. I preferred the NV Pol Roger that I had last month for approx. the same price much more.
