Halbtrocken meaning, I think, dryer than a Kabinett and sweeter than a Trocken. This tended more towards the Trocken end and had a lovely salinity as well as citrusy notes. Good value.

A generous, enjoyable Volnay, not the most delicate but put smiles on faces.

This is well into its drinking window and had plenty to give. Decanted for 2 hours, it held up well in the glass and had a nose of dried herbs and pepper with a lovely hint of brett, and sweet fruit with a tangy, peppery note on the palate, and a hint of tannin on the finish. Not improving but should be enjoyable for a few more years.

Best bottle yet - high-toned, furniture polish, exotic fruit and candied citrus fruits. Long and very pleasing.
Red
Still going strong, a low-key but lovely and complex Volnay.

Still a beautiful wine, this is on a gentle decline. A gentle earthiness, some red fruit and a brisk finish. This was delicious with lamb.

TS level. Popped and poured. Vibrant colour with some mahogany on the rim. Lovely nose straight away, and fresh and energetic on the palate. Moderate complexity but such an enjoyable wine.

A beautiful, crowd-pleasing volnay - the typical silky mouthfeel resolves itself in a lipsmacking sherbetty finish. High-toned, ripe fruit. Outstanding at this level.

This is still in its prime and over-delivers for its modest appellation.

This has become more elegant and less blowsy, in a good spot right now. No reason to wait any longer.

Delicious, lots of character for the money. Light golden colour. Flowers and tropical fruits on the nose, a lemony palate with a hint of custard. Drink now or hold for 2-3 years.

Corked. This kind of wine really should be screwcapped.

Outstanding, delicious from the word go. Lead pencilly and earthy nose, glorious. Silky texture and lots going on on the palate. Long finish. Delicious.

Viscous, powerful and very sweet, this had an attractive marmaledey bitterness. Delicious, and would stand up well to just about any fruit-based dessert (in this case poached quince).

Delicious and full of life, this was chunkier and had a less ethereal perfume than a 1963 Taylor's drunk earlier this week. Still a delicious, classic vintage port that may be one of the longer lived ports of the vintage.

A little rustic for a volnay but a delicious mature burgundy.

A glorious aged Burgundy. Straight from the producer so in top condition. Peacock's tail of a nose with tertiary fruit and a mushroomy, forest floor note. Silky mouthfeel, more smooth fruit and earth with a spicy kick on the finish. Beautiful wine.
White
Tasted rather evolved but lip-smacking and appetising. Serious wine.

This was astringent and had a whiff of oxidation when first opened, but a three-hour decant settled the wine down and it drank deliciously of the course of an evening. A lovely mix of sweet and savoury, with a lingering finish.

Label says 12.2% alcohol. Medium garnet colour, Lovely autumnal nose but there is good fruit left. Silky texture with a slightly drying finish. This seems to be just past its prime and on a gentle slide downhill. Lovely wine.

Dark colour, with hints of purple, amazing for a burgundy this age. A little cloudy/muddy looking. Volatile acidity, leather, dark fruits and earth on the nose. A dark-fruit dominated, very extracted wine. Medium-long finish. Definitely an experience, even though this is not my style of burgundy. You could say that stylistically this is like a cross between Cote de Nuits and Cote Rotie.

Delicious and ready. When young, this had hammy, smoky overtones which have now receded into the background. The main note now is of open fruit, mainly red but also black fruit, with a little complexity and decent length. Great value, and should drink beautifully over the next 3-5 years.

From magnum. Butter and cream upfront, and as it fans out the substance and acidity come to the fore. Long finish. A beautiful bottle. On this showing, this seems to have many years ahead of it, but it is lovely now.

From half bottle. The fruit is sweet but not too sweet, and develops into something savoury and interesting. Quite a bretty bottle, and rather heady. Would be enjoyable with bold Mediterranean dishes.

First half bottle from a case of 12. An intriguing vintage. Brassy colour, not as dark as you might fear, slightly spirity nose with cloves and Sevile orange, and similar on the palate. This is not ne of those rich, creamy sauternes, it's not viscous and has more of a cognac texture. But not oxidised, very alive, plenty of time left. More of an after-dinner drink by the fireside than a dessert wine.

This had a slight cork taint or mustiness but this did not prevent my friends enjoying the wine. Dark, intense for the vintage, an untainted bottle would be beautiful in a masculine but not rustic manner. Very long finish. Must try another soon.

Beautiful tension - a very sweet caramelly core but the nose and finish have a characteristic high-toned acidity, giving the overall impression of a medium-dry wine. This was served with cheese and was perfect with the Comte.
